Furminator vs Furbuster?

How can you tell if you're breaking the guard hairs? What are those? The top coat? I just want to be sure I'm not doing any damage.

Haven't read through all the posts yet, but I used to use a rake on Miko, but honestly, using GeeRomes method with the Furminator, I could not BELIEVE how much undercoat I got out of Koji. I honestly thought his back end was just fluffy and poofy. Um, nope. It was undercoat that wasn't coming out. One thorough brushing and he looks wonderful.

If you use GeeRome's method with the Furminator (and that is the only method I would use - that is: line-brushing), you should be ok with the Furminator because you are really only touching the undercoat. Just don't line brush all the way to the top of the back, or you will get to the guard hairs at that point. Revert to a regular pin brush at that point.

I call it a good day when Smudge lets me brush his hump (his hump, his hump, his hump his hump! Check it out!). Usually he spins on the grooming table. Who needs a lazy susan when you have a spinning Smudge? :biggrin2: So I haven't been able to get all of his hump and pants undercoat out yet. :rolleyes2:

One day I swear to you I am going to start collecting fur in a ziploc bag. I did it once for my Mom's friend. I wonder how long it will take me to fill a gallon bag? :biggrin2:

Holy Cow! You've just reminded me! I have a 1/2 finished project that got shelved with all my moving and landscaping. David started to build me a lazy susan dog grooming table. He built the base, and I ordered a collapsible arm, but couldn't get the arm to remain open. Then I moved....and somewhere down in the deep dark hole of my basement is my table ready to be finished.

Looks like a fall project now! :rolleyes2:

If I am not mistaken they have lazy susan type things at PetEdge for your grooming table. It was at some dog store anyway. :uhoh:

It was for small dogs, but it's what gave me the idea in the first place. I had DH build me a larger platform. Then I ordered the grooming arm that never would stand up....and then I started the whole move thing....and the project went on hold.

I was grooming the dogs on the deck this weekend in a very uncomtarble position. I was dremmeling Indy's nails, and somehow sucked his tail into the dremmel. He was not a happy boy after that. I want and need this table soon!

Oh snap! :eek2: Don't take poor Indy's tail off!

I know what you mean though. I am 5'4, and the height of my grooming table + Smudge being so tall = not good. My back kills me when I groom him, but I'm not buying another grooming table. The table can't be adjusted, either. It's one height.

On a mature sheltie blowing its coat... about 5 seconds:wink2: I think when Ember blew her coat this year I could have filled a tall trash bag in 5 mintues.:smile2:
