Gavin can't walk anymore :(

thank god for his wheelchair. he was actually smiling when i had him in it inside so he could eat on his own. He is totally walking normal (for him) in the chair. And he is sitting up now, a full sit. He wasn't able to do that last night.

i like the chiro idea, I will have to call his vet's office. I hope the chiro is still working through this. I don't have a particular vet, which makes this hard. no one will give advice over the phone if they haven't seen the animal unless its a chronic well documented thing.

I gave him some carprofen (NSAID).

I am thinking maybe a pinched nerve? My mom had one in her back, and one morning she couldn't get out of bed. A few days later she was home and doing OK. looks like I need to call the specialist vet place about massage type rehab stuff....they had a month long waiting list even before COVID...sigh....I hope he continues to improve little by little over the weekend.

the wheelchair really is amazing. Gavin is fully supported and can potty on his own and eat on his own. I can tell he likes being able to get around, so I will try to keep using it that way a few times a day. Normally, it only gets used for the beach.

I am so sorry to read this.

All I can say is I'm having similar issues with Tully, she is limping very badly and can hardly walk, although she still tries. Her Medicine specialist had the Ortho vet give Tully the once over when she was in the ER last week, but because of Covid I couldn't be there or speak to the Ortho vet. Apparently the Ortho vet couldn't find anything. But it is the exact same symptoms of when her back hock went, so I fear her front end may be collapsing too. Unfortunately this is a Sheltie issue, It probably doesn't help that the last months we have been at a house with floorboards and Tully has trouble getting up and walking on them. I don;t know what the solution is though.

so Cran has had some issues with his rear end- started in 2016 and very intermittent after that. finally happened at the vet's office and he sent us to Auburn vet school. they did some tests and determined he has several herniated discs- not bad enough for surgery but enough to give him trouble every now and then.
chiropractic, massage, acupuncture and rehab stuff have all helped him. we went with whatever we could find at the time as the diagnosis was just before things shut down for Covid last year. I knew a rehab person and he was willing to work with us long distance with video. found an acupuncture vet that we are able to see mostly outside so don't have to worry too much about exposure there. chiro has been more challenging as there isn't one really close- or there wasn't- now there is one local but pretty pricey so only Cran gets to see that doc. haven't found a massage person since the shutdown- for him or me.......

hope that Gavin continues to improve and glad that he can still get around in his chairiot:winkgrin:
