I am very worried about my tri-girl, Charlie. Her eyes have been cloudy lately, so she went to the vet today and the vet said her eyes are not producing enough tears. He said it could be something as simple as allergies or maybe her immune system is low. He gave us some drops to do twice a day for the next week to see if that clears it up.
But it could be more serious. We got Charlie from a questionable breeder (we didn't know any better at the time!). I know they did not screen for sheltie-prone genetic eye disorders.
The vet got us an appointment with an opthamologist in Oklahoma City on Nov. 3 to get her screened for these disorders, namely, Sheltie Eye Syndrome and Progressive Retinal Atrophy. We are more concerned about this second one, as blindness is inevitable, and the cloudy eyes is a symptom of that.
Anyway, I am trying not to let myself freak out. There is nothing we can do about it until the appointment on Nov. 3, so I am going to try not to worry about the maybes until we get her checked out.
Just thought I'd share with people who love shelties as much as I do.
