Greetings from the Central California Coast

Hello there from Southern California (Orange County)! It's always a surprise to me to see another Cali person join up here. Most people tend to be from the East Coast:yes:

Hi! I lived in North San Diego county for 10 years before moving here, and further south for 15 years before that... I sure don't miss the traffic! :smile2:

We have three shelties here...one lemon sable girl, one red sable boy, and one bi-black boy...ages 2, 3 & 4 :smile2: We call them our "mid-life children." They listen SO much better than human children! LOL The lemon girl is actually our daughter's..so that makes her our "Grand-pup."

Very cool! I can't wait to see more of this forum. (I really shouldn't be having all this fun at the expense of my day job, but didn't want to leave-out anyone who replied. Maybe I'll work late to make up for it.) :smile2:

Welcome, and congrats on your two new little one's...as well as condolenses on your loss of Jake #1. We lost our "heart dog" 4 years ago at the age of 3 to Lymphoma..

Thanks, and my sympathies to you as well. I took some comfort from the long and happy life Jake had; I'd imagine it'd be very hard to lose a youngster.

and that's when our bi-black boy came into heal our hearts. They have a beautiful way of doing that for us, and the babes from the past never completely leave us either.

Oh man... there goes my 'no tears at work' rule... again... But that was very nicely said, and I couldn't agree more.

Hi and welcome Mark, Jake 2, and Brandy!!!

First, ohmigod, CUTE CUTE CUTE!!! Love the sleeping photo of Brandy. And of them together. Okay, I loved them all. Who couldn't?

Secondly, my heart goes out to you about the original Jake. My pup Miko is 13 now, and I don't want to imagine my life w/o him, so I refuse to let him go. Nope, he's going to out live me (hmmm...I shouldn't say that, because that could mean I may live only another year or so.....). Let me rephrase and say he's going to live to be 50! Shelties live that long, right?

I bet they love your property. I'm in OC also, so you KNOW we have no backyards, right? lol. Maybe when the Tri-Valley Sheltie Club has their Sheltie Specialty in the fall, we could all try to get together. The Specialty will probably be in the Ventura area.

First off, welcome to the forum Mark. I'm just south of you in Ventura County and probably know the people your vet is referring too :smile2:

Cheryl,

The specialty will be at the same loc in Moorpark as last year. Due to distance conflicts the only way to have Agility was to have it on Friday which is Veterans day so hopefully people will come. Sat will be conformation only and Sunday will be 2 seperate obed/rally shows and conformation. We have so many conflicts I hope it works out :) Saturday is also Top Dog so we have problems w/attendance, judges, stewards, etc if we try to have obed/rally that day. Hope you can make it again this year!

Welcome to Sheltie Nation and condlences on Jake #1.Your pups are so cute. We lost a girl when she was 8 to lymphoma but now we have an almost 2 year old boy and a almost 15 year old.

Mark, thanks for the pics! Your pups are lovely! I love them sleeping together...so cute!

Ok, I'm in, I've already had $25 worth of fun talking to all of you, so... looking forward to getting my sticker in the mail. :smile2:

Yay, another Californian! I am just 1 1/2 hours south of you! Welcome to the forum, a great place for sharing & learning about our wonderful Shelties. Yours must be in heaven with 20 acres!

In the winter time it will be fun for them, but the fields are full of rattlesnakes in the summer, so they get zero time off the leash until those heinous reptiles go back into hibernation! (Wish I could organize a rattlesnake roundup here, like the one in Sweetwater, TX!)

Foxtails are a bummer too, I can barely keep the fenced yard free of them. Jake's coat is thick beyond all reason, I literally have to groom him daily (I do 20-25% of him each day, so the sessions aren't grueling -- for both of us!) :smile2: I'll guess I'll just have to bite the bullet each time I let them go exploring, I know they'll love it.

The pictures were cute overload! They look like a nice pair, did you get them locally?

Thanks! I got them from a breeder named Marsha Kelly in Forestville, CA (a bit north of Santa Rosa.) I drove up to meet her/see her place and dogs when Jake was 4 weeks old. Luckily my daughter is going to UC Berkeley (90 minutes from Marsha); she brought Jake down for me when she came for Thanksgiving. (He turned 8 weeks 2 days before.)

Our breeder retired a few years ago. Asta and Ally came from Arroyo Grande. They are 9 years old, both sable girls.

Ah, right around the corner from me.

Maybe we will eventually have enough So Cal forum members to have a Sheltie Gathering of our own.... heh heh.

Sounds like fun!
