I hate crate dryers. I wouldn't allow one to be used on any animal of mine.
My dryer is a stand dryer, old to be sure, but will dry a full coated westie in show groom fairly quickly. For those of you that don't know, westie hair has to be straight so you have to dry it carefully. I tried one of those high velocity cool air dryers and both Phoebe and I hated it. She didn't dry very quickly and the noise was awful. She kept jumping around trying to get away from it and snapped at it more than once. This, a dog that gets done every 3 weeks of her life for over 12 years now and never behaved in that manner.
It sounds like groomer #2 might be the solution. Definately, no drugs are required for this dog at this time.

I do Bonnie myself and only use a dryer in winter but something that has helped is making a game with the dryer. Maybe you could do some training with a hair dryer at home in between grooms so its not so bad when they go. I leave it on and give treats for being quiet near it and even blow treats at her with the air stream so that its fun.
