Grrrr-it happened again while walking Sandstorm!!!

I completely agree. There are those who let their dogs run wild, even if they aren't friendly and then those who won't let their dogs come near yours even when the dog desperately wants to meet and play. So unfair on the dog

One time, when Cadbury was a puppy at a class (not my current club) a lady had a collie puppy. We had not started class and were just waiting around, Cadbury trotted a little to the side to say hello to this pup and the collie was gently leaning forward to touch noses when its owner screamed at it "no!" and pulled it away! What is that supposed to teach a tiny puppy?

That's awful! Sandstorm doesn't like the people across the road-so dog unfriendly- and they have a dog!

I gotta beach story- when I lived in FL- there was a dog-friendly beach area that I would take my basset/cocker mix, Danny. He loved to swim. so we were sitting on the beach- he had a collar/leash combo on and we were watching this family leaving- Mom and kids w/puppy. then comes Dad with non-friendly dog. Danny was leaning forward to get a sniff and the guy goes- my dog doesn't like other dogs- so I'm thinking -then why are you here?
and of course, his dog breaks loose and attacks Danny. the leash broke but the guy did get his dog off mine- but didn't come back to check out the damages. luckily nothing serious except a dislike of big black dogs.
so if you know your dog is not friendly, then why take him to a place where there will be lots of other dogs? crazy people

Hey, not just the big dogs can be awful. At the dog park today, there was this little maltese who had a loud mouth and was quite harassing to my pups. And the lady had three kids with her and didn't even bother to keep them in check, let alone the dog.

I ignored them and tried to play some fetch with Duncan (keeping him away from the son who was purposefully trying to kick a ball at the dogs). The maltese rushed my pup (Duncan will back off anything for any strange dog). When Duncan backed up, the stupid white fluffball bit him. Duncan screamed. I called Duncan over to me and inspected - just a little wetness, no bruise, gash, or redness. I think the scream was more of a WTH? At least the lady had the decency to ask how he was. I love my park, but when newcomers who don't act correctly come, it can overshadow a good time.

at dog parks prevention is the key, if you are regular you get to know most regular pups, of the new ones it is pretty easy to figure out what kind of dog it is going to be just by "reading" your dog reaction. If I see Che looks crowded and uncomfortable I start making noises and walk/ run in opposite direction breaking up the spell, if the other dog attempts to continue after us I simply step in his path... our pooch park is big so no problems separating dogs by distance. I also know Che and he is very confident and dog savvy pup so he can handle his own... now my hubby would not do it he would let Che figure things out on his own, that is how we got Che to be confident pup...
when we walk on the street I often do not want Che to meet other dogs we meet passing by, it is hard to let them play while on the leash and many of the dogs are much better behaved off leash than on...

I so agree. What sort of moron takes a dog aggressive dog to dog places! And yet this is always happening.

I had to laugh at that! The first day of Novice class the lady with the shih tzu (I came to completely loathe her by the time the 6 weeks were up) did not like the fact that Smudge was following her dog.

It's Novice class. We are clearly trying out heels (walking around the ring and then randomly stopping when it is called out and then putting our dogs in a sit). I forgot the dog's name but let's pretend it was Fugly, because that's what it was. Anyway, we stopped when it was called and the lady says, "Fugly let's move up some. We don't know about that dog."

I really, really, did care for the way this woman used the words that dog.

Listen, hag. It's a freaking novice obedience class. If you don't want Fugly to be next to other dogs or around other dogs then why are you even here?! That lady was so. freaking. rude. Rude people are on my top ten list of people pet peeves, along with people who steal my parking spot that is on the other side next to the road at work, people who steal, and telemarketers.

I gloated the last day of class when Fugly would not sit or come when called. Smudge smoked her on figure eights that night. The first night he ever sat in class without be coaxed into position.
