Nah... I don't think restricting them will help. At least they are *here*, and are reading along. Perhaps eventually they'll find reason to join in and talk.
If you restrict them, many may just not bother, especially new people just coming across the site, as there's nothing to lure them in, no way to get hooked before joining.

I agree..restricting access won't help..

Also sometimes I come in here and don't notice that I'm not signed in until I go to post a reply..and I don't always post a reply everytime I come in...so maybe a few of the 'guests' are really members, they just aren't signed in???
I know it wasn't the 97 people that one time tho!! LOL

after reading this .. i may fear the lurkers.... especially the fishing boats :wink2:
 
Nothing bothersome about lurkers.
To some extent, we all are. If you read a topic on here, and do not reply, you are then a lurker on that topic.

Good point! These days I have to "lurk" more and more on threads, because I just can't read a REPLY to all! Yes, guys! It's true! The Posting Queen has it her saturation point! :eek2:
 
My insight:

I lurked for a long time. I looked at the cute pictures, read what I wanted and then played with Cleve.

I joined because I needed to have people who loved the breed and would help me get past losing Cleveland.

Why had I not joined in before that? Hmmmm good question? I am an avid reader and tend to read books and refer back to them on puppy raising and dog behavior.

What do I wish I knew before I joined that I know now? I wish I knew that this forum was more than just a chat site. I wish I knew how informed all of you are medically. I had so many questions with Cleveland and my vet just wasn't answering them all. Also, I think this forum gives a ton of insight on how to find and add a good dog to your household.

The lurkers will join in time. Membership has grown quite a bit in the past few months.

I was a lurker for a few weeks or months before I signed up. I signed up because I just got a puppy and wanted to show her off. I didn't post much after in introduced myself. Then I had an issue, so I started posting and never looked back.

I noticed that a lot of people sign up to post about a health issue or behavior problem. After they get their advice, they don't post again. :confused2:
