Handler Novice Agility

lol
sorry about that.. it is our Novice Agility journey since May of this year lol

Contacts not so solid, but slowly improving... So Toffee still has NOT been on any big obstacles... lol
We played the teeter game a tiny bit once before, and that is it... so he is not scared of the bang...

This is why I am enrolling in more big obstacle classes so that he gets on the equipment, eventually!

he was thinking weave entrances today, LOL

SO much to learn!
The Front Crosses and Contact Seminar was amazing.
omg trainers make it look so easy, lol Front crosses still have me baffled, LOL

Toffee did amazingly well on wobble board, he had never been on one.. didn't fizz him in the least.. he did great on the plank.. no hesitation and he is driving forward in the jumps.. but he does need to work on his jump confidence, but that is because we never have worked a jumping grid before.. so two things I will do

Last, she wants a more solid hand touch, she calls it the crinkle nose and repeated touching to make the 'Stick it' contacts better... Toffee's touch is too dainty she said, LOLLL I said it is a Sheltie thing, but GREAT GREAT tips and and was well worth it to be in the cold wind :)

Toffee enjoyed his g/f the huge Bernese Mountain dog and the other Shelties who were there, so cute :)

Glad you had such a good experience!

I love seminars--it's so nice to have someone very experienced take the time to work with just you and your dog.

LOL @ the crinkle nose. Bentley does the very light nose touch, too!

Glad you enjoyed the seminar. I really do think they're wonderful. I had to pass on the Derrett one this year. Mostly because I didn't want to repeat the same class as last year and well, auditing sucks. lol.

Do you think it really is a Sheltie thing? I ask, because my friend makes fun of Koji's "touch". It's like that too. He's barely touching my hand. Whereas her dog shoves his nose in her hand. I just assumed Koji has no drive. lol. Maybe it's a "why would I want to shove my nose in your hand" thing, cuz they're so smart. :biggrin2:

All 3 of my dogs do touch and all 3 of them have light touches. Ember does fake touches, she will go as close to my hand as possible and not touch in a very quick action. Diva does pretty hard touches but not like some I've seen. She does not crinkle her nose. Maybe it is a sheltie thing. I notice than when shelties snuff yur pockets with treats in them that they use feather light touches too, where as the mal and the rotts will almost knock you off the chair pushing so hard with their noses.:smile2:

Ah....when it comes to things with food though, Koji's face is in it like a rottie/mal (no clue what that's like, but just going off your post). Koji will shove his face in his bait pouch for food. But yeah, touching my hand, forget it. Hmmm.....now I'm interested. I'm going to start a new thread so as not to take over this one.

Romeo smashes his face into my hand when I ask for a nose touch - he reeeally drives into it. Juliet will lick or just ever so lightly tap her nose to my palm. She has improved slightly and I can feel her pushing in abit more!
I feed using the same hand that is being nose touched coz I think it builds value and focus in that hand. I do it for one hand first then the other.
