Handler Novice Agility

You're making great progress with the weaves. You'll know when he's fully confident, because he will pick up speed.

We're attending extra classes to get ready for some September and October trials. After three classes last week, I was exhausted. Fortunately, this is an off week with only one class, so we have time to work on all the homework from last week.

He looks great! A huge first step is getting that "weaving motion" and he's got it. Way to go!

Just a recommendation, try to throw the ball before he turns around to look for it. The idea of a toy at the end is to keep him driving forward :)

Easier said than done while holding a camera, etc...:wink2:

I agree!!
It was partly because if camera etc etc, but he's actually kind of fast... I tried to do that much better this week, but I am still not fast enough... the few times I AM he misses the entry LOL

I think for a green dog with an even greener handler who just didn't get the weaves right for the longest time I am pretty proud of my little guy :)
I agree that he is starting to get the weave motion, and we just closed up the weaves fully, this week.. too

At this point I still reward 20% of the time after second or third weave... so he is looking back allright... LOL
But he is thinking, too... now if I get better timing we will get this show on the road and move on to more contact work, LOL:rolleyes2:

shape issues!

I was discussing with my trainer that Toffee doesn't drive for the weaves quite as fast and that he tends to go slower when it comes to food rewards as opposed to ball crazy mode (he's also louder... lol) She said that is normal... She recommended I stay with food reward for the weaves until he knows his job 100% and then built on it again with toy reward to build more speed... if I understood her correctly.. I will check in again with her on Saturday's class :)
BUT this week I had just closed two sets of weaves and TODAY I closed the third set :eek2::biggrin2::biggrin2: and he DID IT

Today we were doing some jumping exercises and all of a sudden I realized I gotta loose weight and get in shape!? :eek2:This dog all of a sudden ha become bloody fast when he is in jumping mode!?

Yay on the weaves, they're looking great. No comment on your trainers, I have no clue. I just barely remembered to use high value treats for things he's lacking on....like contacts. Can we say duh?!

And yes, get in shape. My friend in agility keeps telling me "go run". So I have been. I need to lose anyways. Koji was so slow in the beginning I didn't have to do much. Now, I'm running full out to get those front crosses in (gawd I love rears, only cuz I'm slow, but I also see how much they can slow a dog down. amazing).

Keep up the good work!

oh gawd.. have you seen pics of me??? There is a lot of weight that could be lost, lol
I was hoping to just run smarter... hahaha not more!
Thank gosh Toffee is not a velcro dog, I don't think; we'll see more down the road... oh god if I have to start running my poor little fat ankle couldn't handle me neither LOL

Oh trust me. I understand. At my height, my extra 65-75lbs is WAY too much. I realized I can't slow down cuz I got too much weight/momentum behind me. LOL. (although, my friend has the same issue and she's prolly 100lbs dripping wet). My trainer said she hired a sport trainer to help her learn how to run. Maybe that's all you need to do.

:( Mine's a velcro dog. But learning to get out more. Cuz yeah, I'm tired. lol. no one said this sport was made for in-shape people. hehehe. that or we just need more distance so we don't have to run as fast.

I am in trouble!
I can't be making Toffee look bad, LOL
I HATE running... lol

Oh Man, I have the same issues. I was thinking I needed to start running on the treadmill to keep up with Diva. The sad thing is I can out run Ember(ultimate velco dog).
