He did it! AKC UD!

Thanks Dani, he got his first AKC leg in January, more efficiently than Bobby. :) I hope that means that I'm improving as a trainer/handler. I watched some Bobby video, and interestingly enough, both dogs have weakness in the same components of the exercises. I've made notes and will try to get a better foundation with Flyer. I slack some on the fronts and finishes and Justus still doesn't always finish on the correct side that I call.

Anyway, here we go soon into UDX classes as I search for a new first.... a first UDX leg. :) I'm sure this new goal and journey will teach me a lot.

Tomorrow we will show up for Utility B excercises. I had entered one day, just in case, we needed another shot. Too bad I can't enter Open B at this late date... :D

Now that the pressure is off, I wonder if this new utility team can hold it together! We'll see.

I plan to take the summer easy and try for a UDX leg this fall, or sooner, whatever feels right at the time.

Meanwhile, Flyer is doing random drops, racing for the dumbell, locks onto the stanchion with "look" - and runs out from about 10' to the stanchion on my "away" command.... just love baby utility and open. At this age, it's all fun-fun-fun! Wait, come to think of it, at Justus' age its still all fun-fun-fun! :razz:
 
It's an awakening, Joan, when you can see the same holes in your training from one dog to another. Thankfully you have video of Bobby to compare with Justus and now you'll have both to compare with Flyer! Having that information will clearly serve you well. Just remember not to concentrate solely on the holes when training. It's the entire package that will help Justus fly to his UDX title.

Also, I think it's a great idea to give Justus time to reset prior to forging towards the UDX. He's not only trialed in AKC but UKC as well.
