Heart murmur

I'm really sorry to hear. Even if it's only slight it's still devastating to get news of a chronic condition, esp when he's only a young fella.

I must say though that tests often come up wrong with murmers. I was told some years ago I a had one, and with all the tests I've had since it's never appeared. Just one of those blips.

Sophie - I can understand your feelings. I had as I mentioned with Emma at 6 months. What I found - different vets rate them differently. One said Grade 1/6, one said Grade 1-2. The present vet isn't worried - he said it's there if she is stressed but once she settles down, he can't hear it.

My prayers and thoughts are with you - hopefully it is minor enough that it doesn't affect him a lot. That could be why he paces himself. Emma can do the same - she is more laid back than the others and stops playing sooner.

I can relate to how you're feeling. My Honey had a grade 1 heart murmur diagnosed at 10 months and it is very upsetting. She's only 18 months old now and it hasn't worsened, but it is always in the back of my mind. I've had a lot of people (including our vet) tell me about dogs living to a ripe old age with a heart murmur, but still it is difficult news to take :hugs

Thanks for all the support, it's a comfort to know so many shelties with murmurs are doing ok. Merlin certainly doesn't know anything is wrong and is his usual active self.

I actually had a heart murmur as a baby, our family doctor called it "noises in the plumbing" and I'm still here:wink2:

So we will take it as it comes. I've said a prayer that I have Merlin for a long, long time. And the main thing is we enjoy that time together.

Thank you all:hugs
