Heartbroken Newbie

Hello Lady 2015, welcome to the Sheltie Nation, I am so very sorry we have to meet under these sad circumstances. When that time comes in every family, we all have the same doubts and fears as you, but you can know that you did the absolute kindest thing you could have done for your baby and took away all her pain. There is no way for anyone to tell you how you must grieve or for how long, each person grieves in their own way. Unfortunately there is no way to put a time frame on this for you, your sweet little baby was such a big part of your family and the loneliness that you will experience will be there as long as you need it to be, there is no one thing right for everyone. Our little babies are all such funster and clowns and brought so much joy to our lives that one day in the future, you will think about a memory of your little Lady and you will realize that you smiled instead of cried, that is the point when your healing will begin. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you.. my husband said last night & I didn't understand that lady had a purpose and it wasn't fulfilled.. I didn't know what it meant, however this morning what hit me was that lady was our purpose.. now, day to day doesn't seem as meaningful. It really sucks

Sending hugs

My heart aches for you at this time. Someone above said something to the effect of the same as grieving for a human. I do think it is harder than that, for our fur friends are the most loyal, and they love unconditionally. Totally and Unconditionally. Our fur babies never hold a grudge and are always forgiving. How much more are they thankful for our love, as they were always grateful for our time, waited for us at the door, etc.

I know I had to put down on of my loves once and held my baby till the end. It was so incredibly hard. A few months after I dreamt of my baby, and was assured that heaven includes all creatures. I know my baby waits for me there, & was thankful to feel no more pain. Somehow they seem to know we never really part, just move forward somehow. They wait for us to return home to them once again.

I know lady waits for her family, without pain. I promise she still loves you, she does not blame you, she waits for you faithfully, loyally no matter how long it takes you ....she will be there waiting.

It does not make it easier for us, but Surely Lady knows, you still have more to do, others to care for, more purpose to fulfill, you rescued her, you have purpose. She was thankful she got to be yours, to be loved by you. She had hardness in her life before you, you gave her what she had never known before...Lady knows she was loved! She was blessed. Because of you.

Truly beautiful and I know it's harder than grieving for a human for sure.. of all the relatives I loved and lost this pain is tripled... I still talk to her as she is still here. Goodnight, good morning, I'll be back, I love you, etc.. like my husband says... we didn't rescue her, she rescued us... thank you for your words.

So sorry for your loss. The pet loss site is really helpful. I found it before we helped Cody cross the bridge, and I visited the site several times after. Some of it is really hard to read, but it does a good job of helping you to understand that you did the right thing, and how to deal with all the emotions you are now going through. It will get better, everyone here is pulling for you!

What you did was incredibly brave and selfless. Don't doubt yourself.
You rescued her. You loved her, and that's the greatest gift of all.
My heart breaks for you.

We were able to bring our precious baby home forever yesterday.. I'm glad it didn't take a week like they said it might. I never thought I'd bring my girl home in a paper bag. I mean, she's in a beautiful box (photo below), and her paw prints in clay were a disappointment.. I was hoping for perfect prints, but they're barely embedded in the clay. I guess they package them up in little brown gift bags, paw print tag with her name on it.. I rubbed that bag the whole way home just as I rubbed her the whole way there..
I know what you all are probably going to say to me after I say this, but .. what if instead of letting the Dr have 48 hours I would have demanded a 24 hour stay and to meet with the cardiologist immediately.. Maybe the decision we made was wrong. It was sudden... Maybe it could have been helped ?
It's my fault anyway hat she's gone.. 20 minutes prior I had prayed to God to give her Peace.. He misunderstood me though.. I didn't mean for him to take her, I just wanted him to calm her down because at this point we didn't know it was her heart..
I feel we could have done more.. I should have asked the vet more questions and made him answer them because I don't feel he was the greatest in our time of need.. The techs gave us a buzzer to push when we were ready for him.. He gave us 10 minutes with her before coming in.. We weren't ready...
