I actually learned something new just from this post! I've never read the Golden Compass (although I have heard about it), so I didn't know Lyra was in fact the main character (google rocks).

Sadly, because with every plan there are kinks, the poor thing won't be home until 3am now. I'm not particularly pleased, but there's nothing I can do about it. The poor thing has car sickness (I'm not sure if she's ever been in a car besides when she was dropped off and vet's) so she's drooling like an enfant and throwing up. That calmed down a 2 hours into the ride, and now she's knocked out. Too much stress for one day. It's shy as well (understandable), so it's only making matters worse.

I can't wait to get her home with me, She looks so precious.

Poor baby. :( Justice was car sick as a baby too. He did best riding in a kennel if he wasn't in one he'd get sick every time. We practiced alot(daily) and he out grew it quick.

Hopefully the rest of the trip goes very.
 
Welcome! Lyra is such a cutie. We look forward to hearing more about her. Bringing a puppy home is so exciting!

And congrats on the upcoming baby, too.
 
Welcome to you both!! We'll be waiting to hear how the new arrival arrived -- she'll need lots of rest and quiet tomorrow to recover from the traumatic journey. :sleepy:

You'll have no problem with Lyra and the ratties. I have a Chinchilla (Rain), and everyone just drops by to visit. He likes to sniff them -- and plays "jump at my nose" with our puppy Beckon! :biggrin2:
 
Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. It means a lot. At the moment my posts will be cut down drastically since I'm back home with the puppy and internet is a shiney new thing down here. Luckily verizon doesn't descriminate and lets us country folk have wireless cards. The connection is better than dialup, but not much more sadly.

Lyra is such a sweet girl. I'm not sure how she was "bashful" at the rescue, or maybe her sister was just that hyper and adventurous, but Lyra has no problem warming up to anything, cats, dogs, horses (luckily she couldn't get to them)and small children. She is a puppy, so she prefers to not be crowded, but you can see the courage in her stances and face. She's a very good puppy, no accidents in the house (she's been sleeping in my bed and holds it all night without trouble), and her chewing is easily redirected to her rawhide bone. I swear she's never experienced plain, no flavored flat rawhides because she's completely occupied with them for hours, happy as can be. This is actually how I find her when I wake up until she pounces my head. First morning she let me sleep until 7, this morning til 8am.

She's not a very heavy barker yet, she does to play but she prefers whining above all else. I can see I am going to have to work with her on the crate training to keep her anxiety issues under check. I love that she's attached to me, but I don't want her having panic attacks when I'm not in the room. She's going to her puppy classes soon, so I can train her with distractions. However, she comes when she's called (little girl and come on work, but now I'm using her name now that I recieved permission to use it by my grandparents) and she plays fetch very easily as long as she isn't distracted. The only real concern I have right now is that she's teething and I'm slowly working her to not "bite play" with my clothes, toes and arms. It doesn't hurt me now, but it's a bad habit she doesn't need to continue.

I'll post pictures again as soon as I upload them. My parents-in-law's german shepard (1.5year old) is the only dog/cat in this house that likes the puppy. She's acting very motherly. To the point that she picked up one of the puppy's raw hides gently and dropped it beside Lyra. SOO CUTE!!
Poor lyra is scared at the shepards size, even outside in an open yard, but the shepard continues to be calm and patience. They are sleeping together now, the shepard waits until the puppy is asleep(like under my chair right now) then gets as close as she think she can without waking Lyra up and sleeps. I managed to get a few shots of both of them sleeping but noses pointed towards each other.

I hate not seeing my husband for two weeks, but I needed to socialize (I thought atleast) and train the puppy if someone watched her for me for the remainder of November. She's a good puppy, just needs some direction. She's only 3 months old, shockingly enough. I've never experienced such a well behaved pup. I gave her a bath today and she was very calm, didn't care that I trimmed her nails either. I'm giving the "breeder" story more merit, since this pup has obviously been well taken care of since birth.

Wow...I really can blab about Lyra, huh?

I'm glad the first day home went so well. Seems like the breeder did a pretty good job of house-training if she went all night, without a crate, without needing to pee. This should help set your mind at ease as to the quality of the breeder. It could well be that the story you were given is true.

I do strongly recommend the crate training. You'll find it gives YOU peace of mind - particularly when they are in the chewing phase and you are not there to watch. And is really is a safe haven for them. While I never shut the crates anymore, Bacca still loves to sleep in his. He has a soft-sided crate, so I guess it's snuggly for him. Indy will willingly go into his, but not his first choice for sleeping...but they are both big boys now!
 
Oh I agree completely Barb, My overall goal is for to have a safe den during the times I'm not home (very rarely, but I do get out to keep from going stircrazy). I want her to be able to sleep in the bed if she chooses, but go to her crate when she wants as well. My past pets were like this, half the time they would sleep half the night in the crate and the other in my bed. so cute.

The crate was cleaned today, of course it rained, and sanitized. I'm starting on introducing to her this week. She likes the other dogs crates, so we'll see how much she likes her. I really want to keep her from high anxiety issues. It's just not fair to the poor thing.

She IS teething, which has been interesting. lol. Very easy to distract but she does still like chewing on me, but that'll pass. I met the dog training at Petco yesterday by accident. She just had to know if Lyra was a sheltie becuase apparently she's getting one herself next week. Lyra (although socialized very well already, with the farm of a house she's in) has her puppy date tonight. There isn't a date yet on the intro class, but I'm hoping to hear of one soon.
