Hello!! I'm picking up my Sheltie puppy this Wednesday and we can't wait! He's a Sable & White little boy and very sweet! But we can't seem to pick out a name. We're all Sheltie ears if anyone has a suggestion.

Looking forward to talking with everyone and learning more about Shelties.
Thanks!

My first sheltie was named Mickey, after McDreamy off of Greys Anatomy, unfortunatley he passed away suddenly at around 5 months of age. He had all of his shots, but got parvo somehow. The vet was and still is at a loss as to why that happened. My two now came to me named....or I am sure they would have names after characters off of greys.

Treader was named after one of the Sunnybank (Albert Payson Terhune) Collies that I greatly admire...Gray Dawn. The Dawntreader part of his name came from a book in the Chronicles of Narnia books...The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

We named our little boy Barkley before we brought him home. I recall the breeder saying she hoped he didn't live up to his name...well, he did, in spades!! Of all my five Shelties, he is by far the barkiest! My husband wanted to name him Whiskey--great name for a sable boy but I shudder to think what he might have been like then  Good luck with your new boy and choosing a name! There are some great ones on line if you Google "male dog names". Let us know what you pick!

Sometimes you need to see the dog then the name will come to you. We are Disney fanatics, so Our new sable and white girl will be called, Kiara ( kia ), after the Lioness in the movie, The Lion King. She is coming home with us on 4/16/08.:biggrin2:
My Sheltie Angel Jewel, Was so named due to her Blue eyes, like a jewel.

All great suggestions! Thank you. And thanks for the warm welcome! Look forward to learning from you guys! I'll be sure to share his name...if I ever pick one!!

treader's names

love both of those books- all the Terhune books made me want a collie but they are too big and shelties are just the best anyhow.

How about Piper? Works for a puppy and the Scottish theme is so appropriate!

My husband and I disagreed about names. I wanted "Juliet" and he wanted "Layla," which is Arabic for dark beauty (fits her eyes). Imagine how surprised I was to discover what "Layla" is in English. You guessed it: Juliet!

What about calling your pup after one of the Scottish Islands, my first sheltie was Ailsa after Ailsa Craig and Arran is obviously called after the Isle of Arran.
