Hello from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Forums Celebrity
I just joined and I think I introduced myself incorrectly.

I replied to a previous response so am now probably buried in the Introductions.

Anyway, I'm here and engaged. I have a 14 week old pup (or is it 15 weeks - I keep forgetting)

He's a darling but takes the herding instinct just a step too far. But I think I'll keep him anyway :-)

Look forward to chatting with you all

You have a darling baby there! Welcome to the forum. I have learned so much already. And yes, herding is part of the Sheltie charm.

Welcome to the group. Your puppy is very cute! Everyone on here is very nice and has great advice! Can't wait to see more pics of your pup!

Welcome to the forum, its nice to see a fellow Ontarian, even if you are approx. 6 hours away from where I live.

I hope you like the forum, lots of nice people and really helpful information!

My girl is at the end of her puppy hood at 11 months old. I totally understand what you mean by taking herding too far, Sadie LOVES trying to herd us. Most of the time its cute but when we're training for agility and she's getting tired she'd much rather herd me than pay attention to the obstacles.

Too bad you're not closer, Sadie could always use another play mate. Your little guy is adorable!

My pup's name

Ok - his name is a little embarrassing!

I wanted some Scottish/Gaelic name. By 17 year old son would have none of that.

Then I tried to find mythical names, zodiac names, or foreign names that had some meaning like: lion-like, wolf-like etc. Something majestic, etc. Again my son would have none of that.

He wanted Chewbacca and that is what he is now named! That being said, I did some research on "bacca". Bacchus is the Greek God of wine - ok that fits my profile! Bacheil or bacca means frenzy or crazy - that definitely fits my pups profile when he goes on his morning tear-abouts. My son tends to call him Chewie, and that fits too. Because he's chewing everything in sight, including my ankles.

I forgot to mention that Chewbacca is my 3rd Sheltie

I had 2 cockers and a Sheltie while I was growing up.

Then I got cats, but the first opportunity I got to be able to have a dog was when I decided to take a leave of absence from work and I got another Sheltie.

He was a beauty and just died a few months ago at 12 years old, from a tumour. So now I have my new Sheltie. When Timber died, I looked at other breeds (king charle's spaniels, papillion, pom, keeshold) but I just kept coming back to the Shetland Sheepdog.

I just love this breed!

Welcome Barb and Bacca aka Chewie

That is actually a very nice and different name. Hope you enjoy the forums and enjoy being owned by Shelties We all are.

I swear that owning a sheltie is addictive! Once you have one you just can't stop!:biggrin2:

Chewie isn't that unusual a name, I've heard of dogs being called that. I happen to think its cute!

I feel your pain with the name game! I have 17 yr old twins! We FINALLY agreed on Indy for the sheltie pup we are getting Sunday. We picked Indy because Max (my sheltie that passed on 7/6/08) LOVED the 4th of July! Indy-pendence Day! Time will tell just how Indy-pendent he will be! LOL

Good luck with Chewbacca!
