Help - spider bite on face

Red back bites can weep and sweat for ages (at least on humans). Poor Deska! Please keep us updated when you can. Thinking of you both.

Caro that is awful. Not a vet but I use Sea Breeze its an astringent to clean
anything up. Then triple antibiotic cream. Lil' Lady had problems and itching,
it really cured her up fast.

My very best. The spiders are horrible this year.

Popping down to chemist to get some Benadryl - what's the dosage?

Caro....one thing about Benadryl. Make sure you get the plain Benadryl, NOT the Benadryl D. That can be toxic to dogs. I buy the Children's Benadryl liquid and start with 1/4 teaspoon. You can give up to 1/2t several times a day.

Good luck...sending good thoughts for poor Deska!

Caro, I am so sorry for poor little Deska, that looks just horrid. I'm sorry I have no words of advice, only words of support. I agree, I would certainly be finding a back up, when our little ones are sick or injured, we want them treated ASAP, :gaah especially since you have already had to wait for the office to open. I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers. As everyone else has stated, please keep us up dated. :fl :hugs

I so hope Deska is ok. That open wound was scary--all from a tiny spider! They scare me to death, frankly. Your picture and post caused me to read about spider bites on dogs because I had no idea what to do should one of mine get bit. Nothing I read was very comforting! Going to vet ASAP seemed to be the best option. We have a lot black widows here, which I will be killing tout suite!

Any new updates on Deska's condition?

Hoping you had a chance to get to the vet and Deska is feeling better with meds on board.

I would definitely find another backup vet. This can't wait, poor Deska is miserable. I'm glad the makeshift e-collar is working. That will at least reduce the scratching.

We have the cone of shame. Actually I think it's probably more comfortable than the make-shift collar.

Ended up going back to our old vet (who is 5min away) and they were so happy to see us I felt guilty. Told them I'd moved interstate when my sister had a baby (which is only a half lie as we're planning to do that soon). Only reason I changed was for a great vet that manages Deska's chronic pain issues. Although the pain vet is really hard to get into and I'm often stuck with the younger vets who want to run lots of tests to diagnose.

Anyway, Vet thinks it's a spider bite, nasty one but couldn't say what kind. Gave ear ointment for Deska's face (cortisone, antibiotic and fungal treatment). Trying to stay off oral meds since the meds we got for last month's bite infection made Deska sick. Still giving him Benadryl and Phenergan (not at the same time), so he's sleepy. Poor dog, can't catch a break.

The spiders in Australia are evil. Will be spraying the house, porch and cat run next week!

Glad you were able to get him in to see your old vet and get the proper medication to treat him. Sleeping may actually be a good thing for him. He won't be trying to scratch the bite and it will allow his immune system to really work at healing it.

Feel better soon little man.
