Herding test

He did really good Brad!
I thought so too. The YouTube upload was his third time in the pens, and by that time he was working together with Kelly, and reversing direction with the guidance of the stick. They were beginning to work as a team, and the dog was more confident.

Wow that really looks like fun! Is it expensive to get to try them out?
Margi, it wasn't expensive at all. It's a private farm owned by a guy who has been involved in herding events for a long time, and he charges $30 a day to come out and use the facilities.

Oh that's great, Brad. You have to not only have a dog good with sheep, but you need sheep good with dogs. I once and only once took my Aussie in with my sheep. My lead ewe tried to kill him. Knocked him right off his feet. Never did that again. Currently my llamas eye the "new little coyote" and I am fairly certain they would pound him to death (I think they have killed a couple cats). That sounds like a great farm to work the dog on for such a reasonable fee. Fletcher really did do a good job.

That is an incredible deal! I took my Fable to herding way back in the late 1990's and it cost $40 per hour...I suspect it is well over that around here now.

Fletcher looks good...controlled... not in overdrive to scare the sheep...and you both look like you were really enjoying yourselves! WTG!!! :smile2:

Thats not bad at all for taking a dog for a test drive so to speak. I'm gonna look around and see if anyone in Tucson does that. Fillion is very driven. Maybe could be turned to herding!
