Hi from Virginia Beach

Welcome, Marilyn, and congratulations on your new baby! How lucky are you, to have a CHW and a tri?

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. These furkids really have a way to getting to us. If you want to talk about your girl, I would love to hear about her. I lost my 17-year-old baby last April and it still hurts. Like you, I didn't wait long to get a pup. It doesn't take away the pain, but puppy kisses do take some of the sting out of the hurt of loss. And, the challenges of house training, teething, etc, will keep you on your toes.

Eleven years since your last pup? You'll do fine! Phebe is the first puppy ever in this household and we've been married 20+ years.

Sheltie hugs from Phebe and me.

p.s. Did anyone mention that we love pix? :wink2:

How do I find what i posted?

Hi all,
I posted something last night and I can't find it...I guess I'm a little technology-challenged!
I'll keep perusing and if I don't find it, I'll repost!
Thanks!

Welcome Marilyn.

What was your girls name, and what are you going to call the new little one. What an emotional month its been for you. Thats great about your other dog - is that a chow or a chi? - I have wondered about the success of treatment, how old is he now?

Oh and yes, new puppy pics are the best.

Hi again from VB

Duh...I found the post I couldn't find!!!! ...must have been a senior moment!
The little girl we lost was named Shana which is yiddish for beautiful.
Our chw (color headed white) is Chipper. His coloring is unique! Haven't come up with a name for the new girl yet. Maybe when we see her, something will click. I am picture-challenged but will put some up when I figure out how to do it!!!
The chemo treatment for Chip was as follows: once a week for 8 weeks, then every other week for 8 weeks, every third week for 8 weeks, then once a month. Treatments stopped at the two year mark. He was on prednisone and another cancer drug during that time. He became a little aggressive...killed 4 wild rabbits in our back yard and destroyed the top of our trash can! I like to think he went for the rabbits because we had given him squeeze toys as a puppy and he thought that's what they were. We're going to watch him carefully with the little girl. He's been pretty good with my young grandchildren. I don't think he's malicious...just a grumpy old man! He's got a huge lipoma on a front leg....didn't have it removed because the surgeon said he was an above average risk.
So--that's the story from snowy Virginia Beach where we are now in our second snow day! More snow may be here over the weekend...hope it doesn't impede our girl's arrival.
:(
I'd love to hear about everyone's shelties...I also have tons of puppy questions--food, to crate or not to crate...dietary supplements....
Have a good day, everyone!

I have felt great guilt because Shana hasn't been gone that long but the hurt has been incredible. She even went to the bathroom every day with me....

There is no need to feel guilty that you have decided to bring another sheltie into your life. The fact that you are giving another sheltie a loving home is a wonderful tribute to your Shana. As far as the bathroom thing I've found out you have absolutely no privacy with shelties in the house. They follow you everywhere.

I agree! The best way to honor a Sheltie Angel is to open your heart to another Sheltie!

Hello and welcome to the forum!
We lost our black lab in feb. last year. He was old for a lab, 14, and had a brain tumor that caused siezures for about a year before he passed. We had lots of time to prepare and we both agreed that we couldn't bare to go through the loss of a beloved friend and family member again so were not going to get another dog.

When he passsed I started to understand just how much he meant to me and how important sharing my home with a furkid was to me. We brought Darby and Deja home within three months.

The fact that you are so willing to open your heart and your home to another furkid is a testament both to your sheltie angel and to the love she shared with you.

Hi, Marylin and welcome, I am new to the forum myself as we are in the middle of puppy raising process- Che is sable merle, just turned 4 months, he is going to be big boy. Che did not give us any trouble with housebraking so I am eager to get another one to add to the family. We did it under 2 weeks but we were adhering to the letter- strict schedule of potty/ food/, taking shifts, rain or shine for at least 10 days... We did use crate and I love using them- very helpful. We have one in the house and then one in each car, our pup travels everywhere with us and is good rider. I also got recently Crate games DVD by Susan Garrett which I think terrific and will help us a great deal in training....
Sorry about your loss, pain never goes away, but once you are able to choose to celebrate your doggie life as oppose to mourning his/ her death- that ethernal hope presence...
regarding food - keep reading food section, it is very hot topic and everyone is sure theirs is the best way LOL
