honking like cough

I've heard that steam helps loosen mucus and it helps to put them in a steamy bathroom for 10 to 15 minutes for the cough. You might need to sit there with your book to keep him quiet. Make sure he's staying hydrated if you can. If there's any sign of him getting worse, I would get him back to the vet right away. They can do supportive care there with oxygen and an IV. Keeping good thoughts here for you.

we have been running humidifiers in living room and bedroom since this started. and oddly enough it is super humid and foggy today. He is basically as bad as it was when he first started coughing. so its like we are back to square one. But mornings are always the worst...sigh...still only 48 hours into antibiotics and this is when they SHOULD kick in.

Another good night :) I woke to Pico plastered along the length of my body.
and then once by him sleeping curled up by my pillow.
Those are his normal sleeping positions, so I am comforted by it.

yesterday he snuggled with me on the couch a bit (which he hasnt done since before his relapse), so Ithink he is feeling better and less impacted by positional dependent coughing

Great news the sitting up on the couch post had me feeling bad for him. Only time I spent a night in the hospital was like what you described. I slept about an hour in three days since I could not lay down and even setting up was dodgy. First night in the hospital I did not sleep at all second was the first time in a while and of course they woke me up to take blood :ROFLMAO: Thing is one lady bless her heart (for real not southern expression) tried to take blood without waking me. I got groggy right when the needle went in. VERY unsettling.

Ian claims Pico is just food deprived and the same could happen to him if I don't double supper him. He also relays from Spitfire, 'while a filthy puppy he hopes Pico gets feeling better, see a benign emperor'

I was pretty worried about him.
Now he is still coughing just as much, just not at night.
and he isn't struggling to breathe (when he isn't actively coughing).
He wants to go out on my patio, he is eating and asking for food, and last night he even went all zoomies on me for a tiny bit.

I’m glad Pico seems to be showing some signs of improvement Cindy!
I remember when Monty got pneumonia…it can get bad quickly!
Did your vet do a chest X-ray on Pico at all or any blood work? It might help to assess how severe the pneumonia is…it worries me when you say he’s coughing stuff up now. That’s probably good in a way but also worries me that it’s possibly getting worse.
I did read about cupping (similar to what we do when a human has pneumonia to help them cough it up) on a dog with pneumonia. Might be worthwhile to ask your vet if that’d help Pico.

For people the color you cough up matters. I might have this wrong but greenish/yellowish is still infected : clear/whitish is OK and just clearing. If incorrect I am sure someone can chime in on color.
