honking like cough

So the vet offered to do an x-ray, for about an extra 1k. she said it wasn't always helpful for diagnosis. I would have to wait a few days for results. She didn't mentioned the cupping, but its all over google so I do it a few times a day. His productive coughs are only a few times a day, and the vet told me that's good (hence no cough supressant allowed). The coughing is getting a little less intense

He is doing better bit by bit. He is begging as much as ever for food, asks to play, and he gets mini zoomies at night (no activity for weeks is hard on a Sheltie!). he also disappears on me when im chilling on the couch. He goes exploring...either the hall or bedroom. Definitely bored Pico

I got nose kisses when we woke up today!

For people the color you cough up matters. I might have this wrong but greenish/yellowish is still infected : clear/whitish is OK and just clearing. If incorrect I am sure someone can chime in on color.

I know I've heard this for years, but then you also read that it isn't always related. Anyway, his spittle yesterday was on off white color (maybe slightly yellow). But green would have me worried!

Sounds good. Took me a month to clear. Part I did not say is I went to the doc, they gave me a steriod and said if this fails let us know. It did so they prescribed a cough medicine. I went in as it continued to get worse. They were going to prescribe a STERIOD!!!! I was furious. Then he said bad news you need to go to the hospital (in the middle of a huge flu outbreak). He was amazed I drove myself to his office (probably some what correctly). Needless to say I fired him as my doc and have not been back. Hope Pico does not have to fire his vet. Actually sounds like better and better from here out. Give him a pet from us and Ian says add cookies.

Hearing Cindy’s explain does allay my concerns as well! Doesn’t sound at this point that Pico will have to fire his vet!

an extra 1K? Yikes! Are chest X-rays more expensive (I honestly don’t know lol)?
You sound like you’ve got everything under control Cindy! Sounds like Pico will be going for his walks in no time!

he is just starting on day 8. He is eating great (never had vomiting or diarrhea).
sleeps fine (no coughing at night).
No fever and not struggling to breath, he's bouncy and happy.
If I had his symptoms, I wouldn't go to the dr.
as long as he continues to cough less and is happy, I don't see the reason to go to the dr.
fingers crossed

Well I hope he's better, where is he on his antibiotics? I would at least touch base with your vet and let him/her know he's still got a productive cough. Poor Pico.
I have to agree with Sharon. I wouldn’t necessarily take my dog in but I’d touch base with the vet to see what they think. I think I’d feel better getting their opinion on how the dog is progressing.
Just my thoughts.

Pico has had a very good morning. Coughing seems pretty much only after activity. Keeping him calm is getting harder and harder. He goes to the front door and rings the bells at 8AM, our normal walk time. He's not jumping on them (yet) like before but i think thats coming. But I will not make the mistake of last time and take him out for a walk for at least 2 more weeks.

On a good note, I have my sink back! plumber defaulted to grease as the culprit but I have never poured grease down the sink and I've lived here 11 years. I am still going with tea leaves since that's about all that goes down my sink.....so now I need to waste lots of water ad make sure I flush them down really well. That's a hard sell for a californian....we're always told to SAVE water.
