Here's something I've been curious about for awhile now. How would I go about getting papers on Fasb, if I wanted?
Fasb's not registered. We "adopted" him from my sister-in-law when she got divorced, and neither of them were able to easily keep a dog, for various reasons. They got Fasb from a college friend of sis-in-law's (my wife also knows the person). The woman's parents owned a pair of purebred shelties, and gave away the pups when the mom had litters. They weren't registered breeders and, at that point, didn't sell the puppies. Honestly, from the stories I've heard, they weren't even responsible dog owners.
When my in-law got Fasb, she was told that the parents were both purebreds and that the mom was a show dog (allegedly, she wasn't a "good" show dog and had been mistreated and abandoned by her original owners). It was implied that both parents had their papers, though I don't think my sister-in-law asked for or saw any proof of that.
Would it even be possible to document Fasb's lineage and get papers on him? I do know the names of his parents, but that's about it. We haven't seen the daughter of the couple who gave Fasb to my sis-in-law in years. We know where the parents (who gave away the puppies) used to live, but they got divorced several years ago, so may well have moved. I assume Fasb's parents are probably deceased by now (Fasb is almost 11).
I'm mostly just curious. I've wondered how we would go about getting papers on Fasb ever since I first heard the story about his mom supposedly being an abandoned show dog. I kinda think either it would be impossible to document his lineage, or the story that both parents are properly documented is incorrect. In any case, Fasb is simply a spoiled companion dog. He's never been trained as a show dog, never will be, and was neutered when he was a puppy (so no puppies out there needing papers). I don't really care if he's ever documented or not. Doesn't change how much we love him. Mostly just wondering if it could be done, and how I would go about it.
