How can I get that "Full Fluff" look when grooming.

I just bought on-line, two products by Chris Christensen, one is "Day to Day Shampoo and the other is Day to Day Conditioner. Have any of you used these two products? His line looks great, but wow, sort of spending due to the high cost of shipping over to here, I found a supplier in Austrailia, so, it was not too bad, but it was high enough. Oh well, if it is good, it will be worth it.

I am ashamed to say, Laddie has not had a bath yet, we have been cold here, so, I am afraid to give him one, but, I guess I will anyway when the products arrive. I will let you know how it goes.

I've used Day To Day from CC, and its great for them. I do use only certain CC products, and I will not be without them. One is White on White, and the other is their waterless bath spray. I can't think of the name if it now.

I use white on white for Mia. I've tried lots of whiteners, but nothing does as well as CC products, plus she stays whiter longer. She glistens after her bath. It is just a wonderful product.

I don't use conditioners on my pups. The only place I might use something is on Trapp's pants, as they tend to get wild sometimes.
I've been using Isle of Dogs on my pups for shampoo & also a spray in called Lush coat for misting the coat before I brush out.

Keep in mind that the slicker brush was designed to take out undercoat. No undercoat, nothing to hold up the guard coat.

Dog-gone postage, I had ordered one of those Madan brushes, but drats, the postage to here was more than the brush, so, I ended up getting a pin brush here, so far, it seems OK, hopefully one day, I will be able to get the one that you folks have recommended, but with such high postage, it will be awhile.

My Day-To-Day shampoo and conditioner arrived today. It says I can dilute it in an 8:1 ratio, how do I figure that out? It was really expensive after the postage, etc and it only came from Australia, so, I want it to last long.

8:1 equals 8 parts water to 1 part shampoo. How big a "part" is depends on your container. So, if you put a 1/4 cup of the shampoo in a container add 2 cups of water (1/4 cup x 8 = 2 cups).

Plush Puppy, which is an Australian product, is also excellent!

I second Plush Puppy, absolutely fantastic stuff. They have something called "Sea Breeze Oil' which is great for everything. It comes as a super concentrate so only a few drops are needed. I use it for rinses, conditioning and in a spray bottle.

If you don't want to do a full wash a rinse is great. I put a tsp of the Sea Breeze oil in a small bucket of water, dip in a car sponge and sponge them down. It doesn't take that long to dry because you aren't wetting the undercoat and realistically a lot of the grot is contained in the outer coat.

Plush Puppy also have a product called "Puffy Puppy" for getting a fuller look in puppy coats.

Honestly - human brushes are just as good for styling as dog ones. All the brushes I use most are human - a round human styling brush the most, followed by a human boar bristle brush, then a fine tooth comb to get the undercoat out. I only use the slicker occasionally to get undercoat out. So try out some of your own brushes on him to get a feel for what feels good rather than wasting money on expensive brushes, esp while he is young because his coat will change so much.

The other way to save money on postage for supplies is to go to a dog show - there are usually a few stalls there with brushes and grooming supplies. Check the NZKC Website for upcoming shows in your area.

I've learned over the years that more is too much. Whatever product you use, whether shampoo, conditioner, waterless shampoo....water it down! At full strength it will create residue that will actually weight the coat down.

That being said, expect to wait a full 2 years or more for the full Sheltie coat to grow in. Don't panic, it will happen eventually. And don't compare your dog to photo's of show dogs. They've been primed and pumped with chalk and other enhancers to make their fur stand out.
