How to choose the right puppy for me?

He was everything I thought I didn't want.. bi-black, on the bigger side, not super cuddly, and a wild child. But now he is my everything :hugs

Thank you - I was convinced I wanted a tricolor, but one thing led to another and now I am getting a sable! I'm going to be pretty open and enjoy the visit. If I had to say there was only one thing I wanted it would have to be that stand out spark of intelligence (I know - all shelties are smart), everything else will be a bonus! I am excited, just so glad its finally happening!! :biggrin2:

Look for the trouble maker if you want intelligent. Every naughty puppy I know is that way because they are way too smart for their own good. Be careful what you wish for! :wink2::lol:

Oh, it will be so much fun looking at them all! I must likely will choose a bold one :lol: whether I mean to or not!

I'll be the odd one out.
I picked Cranberry from a picture of the whole litter and purely for his coloration. He is oversize but he is a great dog. yes, he's the velcro sheltie but they all can be depending on the situation. he is smart and willing to snuggle and just beautiful.
Dixie - I met when she was 7-8 months old and brought her home 3 months later. Pretty girl, sweet and wants lots of attention. She was to keep Cran occupied so he didn't constantly pester the older sheltie girl....
Jocu I got when I lost the older girl. he was supposed to be a small blue sheltie but ...... I didn't have the entire litter to pick from but he was also picked from a picture and I picked him because of his blaze- so we've gone from color to a specific marking now:winkgrin:
Jo is the most mellow but also very sensitive boy who also went over in size.... and he's from a long time breeder.
Destin- well I played with his whole litter when they were 7 weeks old. I wasn't getting another puppy for several more years. but later there he was- 3 months old and still at the breeders. exactly what I wanted in my next sheltie so we brought him home too. he is definitely the clown and will make you laugh every day.
All four will snuggle with me on the couch- sometimes they all want up there at the same time....
each is different and each is perfect:yes:
I'd say if you bring home a sheltie pup, it will be everything you didn't know you wanted and everything that you need:smile2:

Yep. When we went to pick up Cooper, he wasn't remotely interested in us. The other puppies played with us. One tri-color was just adorable. Cooper was busy. While the other puppies played, he saw MOM on the other side of the pen. And he wanted MOM. So, while they romped and made us fall for them too, Cooper was patrolling, looking along the pen edges to find the weak spot. He almost made it to freedom when DH caught him. He was also the first to escape the whelping area. He was the first to bark and walk. He was a whole ounce larger. And now, he's still plotting. Only now, he has the Belles to help him.:gaah

yeppers, look for the calculating one, Savannah is way too clever for her own good at times, and I swear if she could verbalize- it would be ahh mom, do I have to...she uffs under her breath when she doesn't get her way. She is my 1st sheltie that doesn't really aim to please, she wants to RULE the world. Maybe I should have named her Napoleanna.

I really think whichever one you choose will work. Can't wait for pics...

:yuckyuck Cleo does that too!

And I agree with cmae. Look for the trouble maker if you want the clever one!

Yep! Go for the trouble maker. When I picked out Spirit, I wanted a spunky performance dog. The breeder said that even though she was the smallest in the litter, she was always the first to try everything. The true leader of the pack!

:yuckyuck that is true. Savannah had 3 bro's and her goal was to out do the boys, she wasn't the leader, but she was trying to dethrone the boys who thought they should rule. Ah my lil diva, she cracks me up. I have decided Savannah is kinda bipolar...she can be the laid back dog, u-n-t-i-l she thinks there is competition, then her attitude surfaces and the games begin. :gaah
