I second what everyone else says.
I'm going to put this very bluntly... and I hope you do not take it the wrong way and get mad and leave. A reputable breeder would not have sold you a breeding quality dog. I'm sorry, but that is the way it is. If you do not have any interest in putting a dog in the show ring to finish his championship... you would not get a dog that is of breeding quality. It took me two years of proving myself in the show ring with "starter" dogs before sheltie people started taking an interest in me and a breeder trusted me enough to sell me something that is of quality.
Why in the world would you want to breed something when you don't even know what his pedigree is like? Do you know what any of the diseases are that affect shelties? The common ones? The least common ones? These are babies that you are talking about bringing into the world... they don't ask to be here. It is your responsibility to make sure they are healthy and happy for life!! and go to good homes... I don't care if you don't own the bitch...
Breeding is not for the faint of heart!!!
Has your dog been tested for hip dysplasia? CERFed? Thryroid issues? vwD? I certainly wouldn't put off testings especially when you don't know what lines he came from.
