How to prevent car sick from new puppy ?

Zoey gets carsick whenever I'm driving her by myself... if my boyfriend drives and I hold her, she's fine.

I've noticed that when I'm by myself driving, she'll jump on my legs then just proceed to throwing up. I never make a big deal out of it but it's not too cool :(

I guess I need to try to see how she'll react if she's in the back. My problem with putting her in the back is that she's far for me to access and I'm scared she mught try to jump to the front and hurt herself :(

First, you should get her a car harness / seatbelt. This way she can not jump to the front seat or go flying in case of an accident.

The two things that helped Bailey with throwing up are: ginger snap cookies. It helps with nausea. I give her one cookie half an hour before a car trip. The second thing that helped her was a big comfy blanket. I made the back seat feel like a big bed. She hasn't had a problem since I made these adjustments.

Luckily Jake didn't get carsick on his way home but Luna used to get car sick. The first time it was a mile and a half from home and she was in her crate. We just restricted her food before a trip and brought a bucket (she's a lab mix). We also didn't make a big deal about the carsickness. She started getting used to the car motion and on her last trip (150 miles), just slept on the back seat.

Of my six, Angus and Figaro do not travel well in the car; the rest love to take rides. We've tried ginger snaps, meds, empty belly trips, etc and nothing seems to work on Angus and Figaro they just hurl their toenails within minutes of getting into the car. One time Figaro didn't make it to the end of the driveway!

Its tough.

In support of ginger, I just read on a dog newsletter I received today to give them a ginger capsule 1/2 hour before travelling. You can get these at any health food store.
