i'm desperate and horrified, looking for help EVERYWHERE!

beckon is going through fear-aggression right now. It's maddening. So we're taking him places where he can meet other dogs in a nonthreatening environment. I'll be looking with interest and lots of support to hear how Jasper is doing. Hang in there!!! :yes:
 
thank you all so so so so so so much!

I had to report back to all of you with some wonderful news of progress!

The day after the boxer incident, my friend offered to have her dog who is a german short haired pointer meet jasper. I was really once again nervous cause her dog is a hyper crazy one, but i was like ok, i'll give it a try on neutral territory and we will see how it goes, if he freaks out thats it and i'm taking him out of the situation.

we decided to meet at petco, and there were dog training classes going on so there were like 20 something dogs in total in the store. at first jasper was doing his growl and hide thing but nothing crazy so i just had him walk past the dogs that bugged him and when he was good i treated him. ( i made sure i had a whole bag of cut up pieces of treats). So finally my friend gets there and jasper and her dog abby met... and became INSTANT friends! he wouldn't leave her side!

Then the dog trainer suggested i just sit with jasper by all the dogs in the class and treat him for being around them so it would be pleasant for him, which i did. at the end of the class all the people came over to meet him with their dogs. Jasper met a doberman, a teeny tiny beagle spaniel mix (which out of all of them scared him once haha!) and a rottie which he scared! and a few other dogs as well! i was so proud i could have cried! :sadsmile:

So i wanted to end the petco experience on a good note so the last dog that he reacted good with was it, and then we left.

My friend wanted to walk our pups together, so abby and jasper could hang out more, which was fantastic! the whole walk jasper was crying to get abby's attention and was trying to get her to chase him! we walked them to a field the was all fenced in and i let jasper off the leash... he comes when called and was being fantastic and avoiding distractions. Abby got let off the leash, caught a scent and went into hunting dog mode, which sent jasper into herding dog mode because i'm guessing he knew my friend was trying to get abby back. So off goes little jasper, barking his fool head off trying to round up a dog that is so into following a scent she doesnt know he exists.. :lol:

but they chased eachother and had so much fun!!! and when i finally got home he plopped down next to me on the couch and kissed my face like he was saying thank you for a lovely day... :yes:

i was SOOOOO happy... thank you all so so so so so much.. i'm going to continue the route i'm going very carefully and have more abby playdates!
 
Sounds like Jasper is back on track! You manged to combine all the ideas into a great day for him :biggrin2:

One question, does he have a chip on his shoulder after scaring the rottie???
 
This is a really good idea seeing as Iris has taken a sudden fancy to barking at EVERYTHING that moves or breathes or even just is. haha ... I was graced with such a quiet puppyhood.

Those distraction tips sound super efficient, so far I was just trying to make Iris sit and then look at me. U-turns if it got way too crazy.

Your inifite wisdom is received with open arms.

P.S. Whats flyball like ? Do they just catch it in the air more or less? That might help with Iris's timidness.

Ditto sounds like Jasper is doing great.

My friend raises Rotties and Shelties. The Shelties all boss the Rotties around. The shelties are the brains and the Rotties are the muscle of the operation.
 
Wow, that is fantastic progress and Abbey sounds just the right kind of mate for him. You must be feeling so relieved, I know what its like, when Tully actually went up to a ridgeback in flyball class when she first started I was over the moon! It is such a good sign for them to initiate behaviour, it means they are becoming more confident. Keep us updated on how its going. I love to look back on my earlier posts at my comments on Tully's shyness because it reminds me just how bad she was and how far she has come.

Iris would love flyball, I took Tully as far as I could with overcoming her fears and shyness, but it was flyball that gave her the most confidence. Of course there is one downside - all the dogs bark nonstop at flyball! They get so excited and it gets sooo loud, not the greatest if you want a quiet dog.
