In the blink of an eye the dogs got out!!!

Puncture wounds are some of the most dangerous wounds...a cut is much easier to treat with just cleaning and antibiotics. I have only once dealt with a little dog who sustained what looked like minor puncture wounds from a dog attack, but deep tissue damage showed up when surgery was done and considerable tissue had to be removed. Whatever you decide I hope your little ones will come through this without complications.

I'm so sorry your fur babies went through that, they must be so frightened by the events. Hope everything goes well at the vet and lots of hugs and treats to make them feel better:hugs

We are very concerned about both of them. I think we are going to take them to get another opinion tomorrow.

Morning update

This morning Lacey seems just fine. She is up to her usual craziness, eating and shredding toilet paper (no idea where she managed to get it). Milo however is another story altogether. He is eating, but not moving around much or acting like himself. We are taking the dogs to my vet today for another look at both of them. I really do think Lacey is going to be fine with just the antibiotics and hot compresses, but we will see what the vet thinks.

The vet we saw yesterday is my old vet that I left when I wanted a different vaccine schedule and to omit some vaccines that he insisted she needed (such as Lepto) and he treated me like I was an idiot. I moved her to a different vet, but we were still using him for Milo. That vet is semi retired now and the new vet (who is taking over the practice) is the one who wanted both dogs to have surgery. She is young and new and I'm not sure we will be back.

I really do like the vet I see with Lacey now, but they had no appointments available yesterday and we really did want to have them seen and on antibiotics.

I am so sorry to hear about the bad experience that your and your babies have had. I am interested to see what a different vet says.thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Good luck with the vet visit! It can be hard to find a vet who's the right fit for you. I'm glad to hear Lacey is back to normal, and I hope Milo is just feeling a bit of shock still.

We just saw my vet. He saw no need for surgery for either of them. He did say sometimes there are pockets under the skin after a bite and those do need to be watched, but he didn't see anything that would leave him to believe that either dog had any.

Its really crazy, if we had gone on the first vet's recommendation our pup's would have been subjected to unnecessary painful and expensive surgery. He said that with the small puncture wounds that they both have, it was not very likely that they would have any need for surgery. He said keep them on the antibiotic and just watch them. Bring them back if we have any concerns about how they are healing.

I'm so glad we waited and got another opinion.
