Inflamed Pad

Hi Everyone!

My beautiful sheltie, Cowboy, began limping last night. This morning it is not going away and seems worse. He raises it when he's standing. I looked at his paw and the the bottom in swollen and there is pink exposed from under two of the areas. I called my vet and they said to give him Benadryl in case he was bitten by something. I haven't noticed him licking it. I looked with a magnifying glass and there isn't a cut or anything stuck in his foot. I feel so helpless....Cowboy is 9 years old and my constant companion. I was thinking about an Epsom Salt soak for his paws. Any suggestions or thoughts would be most appreciated!
:rolleyes2:

I'm sure to hear you dog isn't feeling well.

Is there any chance your dog could've burned his paw? Asphalt, cement and other surfaces can get very hot during the summer.

If you are sure he hasn't burned himself then an epsom salts soak might draw out anything that he might have in there. If it's not better within 24 hours then take him in and let the vet exam it.

Thank you so much for responding. I am noticing he IS licking it a lot. Did an epsom salts soak and gave him treats the whole time. About 10 minutes. I read that on and off limping can be a symptom of lyme disease. That freaks me out....I have never seem a tick on him.

I don't have any advice, but, I am sad for your boy. I hope he feels better soon, Maybe you just need to let him rest and now walk on it.

This happened to our angel sheltie and it turned out she was having an allergic reaction to something she walked one (maybe someone had pesticides or something on their lawn). Her feet were very red and she kept licking them. A round of steroids and some medicated spray and she was good.

Could he have stepped on a bee maybe? Hope he is feeling better soon.

I suppose it is possible that Cowboy stepped on a bee. He's walking a little bit better after the Epsom Salts soak. Getting ready to give him another one. Thanks, Shelby's Mom!!! I love my Celtic Island Cowboy, aka Rooting Tooting Dancing Prancing Cowboy!!!

This too has happened to our Max, vet recommended a betadine soak. It you have something he can stand in beside the tub, just dilute it with water and let him soak for at least five minutes if possible try 10. Sending good thoughts your way.
