Internet Medicine Orders

Ok-I apologize now if this is a long, rambling post, but I wanted to warn all my fellow sheltie (and other animal) lovers out there.

My pup got diagnosed with whipworm today (he's 7 months old). I give both my boys Interceptor since they are collie breeds. Interceptor is supposed to help control adult whipworms. I admit that I order my dogs' heartworm medicine online (Allivet.com) to save some money.

I called Novartis to see if they had a product guarantee I spoke to a very nice lady and we talked through everything. She said she could give me a goodwill payment for the fecal test, medicine and also reimbursement for a follow up fecal test. When she asked me where I purchase my Interceptor and I told her, she informed me that they do not sell to internet companies and neither guarantee nor endorse any product sold online; only those sold through a licensed veterinary practice. :dead:

So now I am going to discard any remaining Interceptor I have (waste of money there) and spend more money to get both my boys heartworm tested and then buy more Interceptor so if they are tested positive, Novartis will offer to reimburse some of the expense covered with treatment.

It's my own stupid fault...can't help but to be mad. I sent a letter to Allivet.com, but I'm not sure what I'm expecting to hear...LOL...
 
There is only one online pet meds place that is a certified vet pharmacy and all products are guranteed. They may be a penny or two more then the others, but my friend my vet recommended this one to me. It is PetCareRX.com. I have 5 puppers on prescription meds and 8 on heartworm meds

This is good info to post for everyone. I know that everyone is trying to save money these days but this is not a good way to do it esp. when it comes to the health of your dogs. My mom works for a vet office and said that they never recommend anyone getting the meds online for this very reason. They don't recommend it due to the fact that they don't know if you are getting meds that are expired or even a knock off that looks exactly like the real thing. Good Luck with the letter to Allivet.com - let us know what they say.
 
Hmmm... I took a look and since you have to get a prescription from the vet in order to get it... I don't see that it wouldn't be safe. I'd think if it was a scam you could purchase it without a presciption.
My vet doesn't rely on just the heartworm medication to prevent worms. I've always wondered about that...:confused2:
 
If you are trying to save money and don't trust the online pet medicine sites, you can always ask your vet if they price match what you find online. I get all my heartworm and flea medication from my vet but if I bring in a print out from 1800petmeds.com or similar site they will match the price. I get the online savings and the comfort of getting the medicine directly from my vet; can't go wrong with that.

I get all my medicine through Entirely Pets .com and have never had any problems.They are ver resonable also. I get Advantix and Glycoflex and Interceptor.
 
I don't know what the price difference is between online and the vet, but I don't think I would ever buy online. Certainly not for myself, so why for my dog?

Most meds take into consideration age and size of dog. Even heartworm. Indy is a little lighter than Bacca so he has a different dosage.

I just wouldn't want to take the chance that I had the wrong product.

I second the positive experiences with Entirely Pets. I have purchased from them for over two years.
