is your sheltie from a breeder?

My first Sheltie came from the highway. He's gone now but just yesterday I was able to pick up my new arrival from a breeder that I came across just by chance. I was looking for shelties in shelters first, but as the story seems to be for all others I couldn't find any. So now I have Loki and he is so awesome. I think I know what it's like to give birth now, because now when I'm not around him, I sit and imagine of the horrible things he might be getting into and start worrying. Before I brought him home I did a bit of nesting too.

Hit the nail on the head !!

Spak, No body could have said it better. You are an awesome sheltie friend :yes:and all pets friends because the best way to learn is through educating people about these pet stores. Most people are not aware that when they purchase a puppy from a pet store that they are helping to keep those puppy mills operating.

Welcome to motherhood of Shelties that is. Lots of luck with your new little one, Loki.

Breeders

Ok lets try to get some breeder links going for any of us having difficulties finding Shelties!!:wink2: I have found it challenging to find local breeders in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine you get the idea. Most of the breeders that were around are no longer . It took quite a bit of research before I found Fair Isle Shelties in Franklin, NH. That was a hit by search engine Copernic. They also brought up others such as Fleur de lis Shelties which no longer exists, there was a breeder where I got my Blue Merle , Jewel, who is also no longer breeding. Please post some to help fellow sheltie lovers find some locally. If you post please state area of country location is.

Both my shelties are from breeders in north Georgia. I tried going through rescue, but unfortunately my app. was rejected by one local sheltie rescue because my yard is not fenced, and the other never got back to me with any shelties they thought would be a good match. I guess I'm hard to place a rescue with....I had another dog, two cats, and two kids under age 10...I had a good experience getting my boys from breeders though, and I would do it again.

I have the same problems with rescue rejection. We currently have two rescue Shelties, as well as 3 kids under 10! We've been without fencing in our yard, but now we're putting some up to contain our kiddos and Shelties! LOL So even though I've put in with all the local rescue groups, it's not often that they have a match for me. So I'll probably end up getting my next Sheltie from a reputable breeder.....

Good idea about making breeder links!

When was Jewel born? I've always tried to find littermates or the offspring of my Chloe (Daniel bred her once). Chloe was born 10/5/97 and whelped 8/99. Just curious.....

A great place to find some nice dogs/puppies is on the internet on www.everythingsheltie.com

I have found a few of my dogs on there, there are many good breeders that are active in conformation/agility/herding. I love the site.

Of course, I cannot vouch for everyone who posts an ad on there, but just do your research.
