Just about ready to take the plunge

Have never tried cooking for me myself (my mom used to make it for us, and I loved it) I am sure if I did, Chinook would be beside himself, but Maia would be saying 'thank you, thank you, thank you. Now I don't have to eat it!'

hilarious... You should try cooking it with Onions and Bacon! It's quite the dance at my house... Since the animals think I am ruining an awesome liver... including one of my cats, which enjoys raw along with Toffee..

Whats your most disliked food to prepare for them? Blech don't I hate Beef Kidneys.. cutting them a little down is gross, lol.. that middle part does me in everytime LOL... Heart isn't all that much fun either... what else?

lol
Toffee wasn't big fan of chicken? loves any kind of beef and LIVER omg is his favourite of all times! He also eats Fish no problem... ever
Ania... I am going to try and be a purist... someday... I like the inspiration :)

PS did you guys ever TRY and cook a liver for yourself??? Toffee gives me the most outraged look EVER

Um no. My mom made me eat liver as a kid and the texture made me gag. It was rubbery and kind of tough, if I remember right. Maybe if I tried it now it would be different but I have a psychological block. I had the same with mushrooms but I got over that. I have fried up some of the beef. Why should they eat better than me.:wink2:

isn't that the best part about raw? Yer hardly ever without some kind of meat entree for yourself in a pinch. Unless we're talking Organs.. other than Liver.. yuck, lol

haha

Well, since you asked - I do hate kidneys too. But, to disguise the liver for Maia, I grind the kidneys up with it and some beef.

BUT the most gross thing is, ready for this, baby chicks! Yes, with little fuzzy feathers - whole chicks!!!! GROSS! But it is sooooo good for them - as they truly get the 'whole' pray that way, organs, meat and 'bone' .

Green tripe, hands down. My friend gave me a roll of Green tripe in a 5 lbs chub. It is frozen soilid so I have to semi thaw it and divide it up into 4-6 oz portions to feed it. Not look forward to that. :dead: Better than cutting the whole thing I guess.

With a good knife nothing else bothers me.

Can't say I have ever had to 'pleasure' of cutting fresh/frozen tripe...yet. I have not found anyone who is brave enough to supply it for me - no hunters. I ask, each year, but they all have refused.

hahaa You are such a doctor! Just giver her a knife and she is fine ;)

I have NEVER fed Tripe... should I try and hunt some down, although it is making me gag just to think of it, dare I ask what it is?

Ok, sorry PHOEBE.. this is not as awful as I am making it sound, come to think of it!
It's actually true that you can cut anything up, portion it and freeze it, which is how I do most of mine

Tripe is the intestines and stomach AND their contents! It smells AWEFUL!!!!!!!! BUT it is an excellent food for them - it is very nutrient rich with tons of enzymes. I feed it frozen right now to mine and they go gaga over it. I triple bag it in the freezer due to the smell.
