Justus was attacked!

Life is forcing me to face alot of my fears lately. I am one of the most fear phobed people. I tend to fear (ok, and sometimes hate) all those things that were in a different world hated and feared by my parents.

But, the world has changed. I have changed. Fear is the most dangerous, hate is a product of fear. I must overcome prejudices, toward people and dogs if I am to survive and thrive...

I must choose love, forgiveness, and where possible shine light into the dark places of my heart and mind.

Yes, I would like to move where there are no pit bulls, no people with criminal intent, no mental illness, where everyone is just like me... but there is no place like that. So, I can choose to respect individuals for who they are, not what they are. (if that makes sense)

I know, a bit "out there" but like I said, life has been handing me alot lately and I've been very lucky in unlucky circumstance - and well maybe, I am just finding myself after 58 years....

I believe, if we are honest with ourselves, we all need to face our prejudices and fears from time to time... part of life as we grow...

I just turned 60 and can appreciate your comment...

"I must choose love, forgiveness, and where possible shine light into the dark places of my heart and mind."

Very great words to try and live by!

I think your open mindedness and your willingness to forgive, look past and work to a better conclusion is inspirational. With that kind of positive energy around, I have no doubt Justice will recover from his scare in no time at all!

Good to here our buddy is OK and still his happy self. Sca says fence fighting is bad, but fence racing now there is fun.....

Just got back from being away all day with theinlaws- so glad to hear that Justus is fine and you are handling this so beautifully. You are a brave lady.

I also appreciate your forgiveness of Ham and am also equally pleased that you and Justus have survived this terrifying experience with minimal harm

I work with a lot of rescues at my store for adoption events. I have to admit that I hate the look of pits, Staffordshire terriers, etc. but 99% of the time the dogs that I have met have been truly gentle giants.

Now granted, these are rescued dogs and kept under strict control. I can only speak to those dogs. In reality, though, we always have to be cautious of any dog!!! Having been bitten viciously by a cocker, requiring hospital care, and the stories my groomer has told me....cockers are almost as bad as pits and pit mixes! (I was off work for a week after bitten by a cocker)

I struggle with this issue every day. I allow my employees to bring them pets to the store. But one employee has a Stafford/pit mix. He truly is gentle, but my customers don't know that. Part of me wants to let him in to teach customers that this breed is not ALL bad. The other side of me says....it would scare customers away.

I am glad that Justus only suffered minor injuries and that he seems to be dong well mentally.

I believe your positive attitude will help him overcome any fear he may experience because of this attack. I respect you for wanting to forgive.

That being sad, as the owner of a dog who was severely mauled by a dog who had a known, though officially unreported, history of bites and attacks, I urge you to not ever forget what this one has already done.

Justus does not seem to have any ill effects of the ordeal. He was calm and friendly meeting new dogs this weekend.

Flyer is having a major issue in the backyard, he runs out barking - looking for the pit on the other side of the fence and barks and runs - and forgets that he's out there to go potty. Justus gets it, only a verbal reminder that he is not allowed to run to the fence or bark...

Flyer is doing the heavy lifting for him... :rolleyes2: I don't have any leverage with the puppy yet. My verbal corrections are wasted on him....

I do have a handful of cookies that I am hoping I can click him into calm when in the backyard.

Nice to hear that everything is all right...

Justus has forgotten that "accident" as mine did. Good news!:smile2:
