Kidney Issues

Supplements like VP can't hurt, I don't think, but I think you need more than that.

Rachel suggested a book but I'm sure google search will give you equally good advice. Just stay away from sites that are promoting their own food.

I was hoping that this site could help, but I couldn't find a "search" on the site for kidney. Maybe you'll have better luck?

I'm looking around for the book right now.....I may have found a really cheap copy. That way, I can read the whole thing. If not, I may be able to get the kidney failure section. So that's ongoing right now.

I'll check out the link. There's tons of information out there....its hard to know what is up to date and what isn't.

I don't really have any advice but want to add my good wishes to those already on there. You and Miko sound a lot like Revel and I. A while back I had a senior blood panel done and it showed high Phosphorous and I got very het up. A friend who is really into homeopathy and natural treatement suggested adding ground eggshell to his food. Certainly when I had repeat blodwork done a fortnight later when he had been having the eggshell for about 10 days, the Phos. levels were greatly reduced and within a normal range. It might be something to consider perhaps in addition to other measures?
Hugs and prayers to you and Miko.

I've been learning so much and hear about eggshells. I was like, eggshells? Who wants to eat that yucky stuff. lol. I guess egg whites are good too. I'm also trying to make a decision on putting him on a low phos food, but a regular food and giving vibrant pets and some of this k/d food (homemade). I honestly think that helped more, but don't want to chance it either. It's hard knowing what to do.

Just a quick update.

It's been what, a week now? I have supplemented Miko's dry Hill's K/D with wet and he seems to like that better. He was eating less and less and I know he has an appetite. He's back to eating like he normally does.

I've been learning a lot, but I wonder if he'll forever be on this Hill's K/D food or what. I can't tell if he was doing better because of the VP, or if his kidneys just decided to go downhill within the past month or two.

I've been keeping an eye on his water intake.....and we even bought him a filter since that's supposed to be better for them. The water tastes good too, so I drink it too! After reading more about Gypsy's lack of urinating and drinking, I've been watching that. He's drinking a lot and going a lot. So for now, that's better than not doing either. He's keeping himself hydrated.

I think what makes me sad is that he's still his happy playful self. I mean, that's good, because it means he's not "there" yet, or maybe not close, but yet, its so deceiving too.

I'll update you when I redo his bloodwork at the end of the month.

If you recall, I'm tight on money. I told my mom about Miko and she was so sad too, so she's giving me money to cover his bills. I love my Mom!
