Lacey's Win Picture

Oh how pretty!!!

OT question a bit. Are pure for sables typically that color, the light sable. I'm so used to seeing my dark boys that I always forget how light they can. Oh, I'm not saying Lacey is pure for sable, it just struck a question in my head.

Ok, resume staring at the beautiful sheltie!

Great Picture!

Lacey is pure-for-sable. She is just young, and so her color is lighter. As she matures, you will see her saddle area darken. That said, within the pure-for-sable, there can be anything from blonde, to chestnut or even richer red...or what we like to call fire engine red!

But, she will definitely darken as she gets older.

I thought she looked pretty young, how old is she?

Edit~ Also it looks like she may have had some blonde/golden sable in her family tree? It looks like her mask isn't quite as bold as other pure for sable shelties. Or is that just my eyes playing tricks on me...again?

Actually, her mask is darker than it appears in the picture, although still lighter than, say, the mahogany sables. Lacey is 2 1/2 now; she'll be 3 in December and I do see dark shading coming in across her shoulders as her adult coat thickens. I love her light, pretty color though!

Thanks to everyone for the compliments! It's been wonderful to have the opportunity to co-own and show Checkers and Lacey -- both very different personalities and types who along with missjennygirl have taught me so much about Shelties and showing. Whether we win or lose, I'm having such a great time on this adventure! :biggrin2: (But I admit winning is more fun  )

Ahhh....got it. I didn't realize a pure for sable could get that dark. I was always under the impression they were light. Now that explains why I see sables that are more on the reddish side (versus black/brown like mine).

Thanks for the explanation.

Gosh, I think all I can say is "WOW!" I didn't know about the pure-for-sable thing... see how much I learn here on SN?

Congratulations on Lacey's win - what a gorgeous girl.
