Ok, what kind of bell, and how did you teach them to ring it for outside breaks?
 
The Great Tell-Bell

We got a desk bell - the kind you find on the counter of a hotel, to ring if no one is at the desk. The hardest part is convincing them it's not a toy. It's placed on the floor by the door and for the first few days we kept hearing it ring but when we went to the door, it wasn't there - Riley really liked to take it into his crate and play with it. After a while, they got used to it being there and left it alone - that's when the training began.
We take them out every two hours and before we go out the door, we'd take their paw and ring the bell - praising, treating and saying out - "ring" then "good boy/girl" (treat) and "out" - after a few days, they seemed to be getting the hang of it. We are still working on it. When two puppies are involved instead of one, it gets difficult to keep track of who hit the bell, who got the treat, who's on first . . . . .:eek2: you know, typical sheltie side show stuff. Anyway, if there's any flaw in the process, it's US - but we are a steady work in progress - the puppies are doing GREAT! :yes:
 
Ohhh, very smart idea! I am going to find Ember some bells to hang on the door. She never barks when she needs to go out, BUT she does go over to the door and play with the stuff hanging on the door knob! It's just a cat toy and makes no noise, so, if I don't see her, I don't know she needs to go out!
 
Starr, that's a great idea and since Ember already goes to the door and plays with the things hanging there, you're half way there. :lol:
 
If pup is already playing with the hanging cat toy, you could easily substitute it for a hanging bell from the door.

Might be easier than switching to a desk bell.
 
Today, I weighed the Duo and it's just mind boggling how much they've grown. At least, Riley has grown to a husky 14 lbs., while Cricket is slinder (almost skinny) at 9.5 lbs. The Vet says that she's perfectly healthy - I guess I'm just being a typical "Mom" about my babies. Even though she's the smallest (and oldest - by 4 days), Cricket can certainly hold her own with "His Tubbs" (he seems to lay down on the floor after he eats and just sorta completely relaxes - showing off his tubby belly - so that's where he gets his nick-name). Cricket will only let him lay down for a few minutes, then she's jumping all over him to prove she can beat him. Like a true gentleman, he takes it - - - for a little while, anyway.

Their Puppy Classes are coming along great. We've conquered
COME, SIT, DOWN, OFF, ON, STAY, WAIT, and several other commands. Although we are very proud - the Dynamic Duo seem to think that since they've learned the command, they don't need to keep doing it. Another hurtle to get over, but we are ever diligent. So we just keep moving on, you know - one step forward, two steps back. But, we absolutely LOVE IT!!! :winkgrin:

Yes, they are adorable!!! You are so brave, taking on two puppies at the same time. Thanks so much for the photos.
