Layla: The Elbow Update

Layla is two weeks post-op from her bilateral elbow surgery. We've done twice daily range-of-motion exercises, stroller rides, and much downtime in the x-pen. Today was her first rehab appointment, where she had her stitches removed, laser treatment, ROM and massage. She's improving, but they reminded me that she's still very early in the 90 day rehab process. Her attitude is splendid, and now that she's had her stitches out, she can go to church and to Walter Reed -- in her "Chariot of Fur."

Tomorrow Layla and I are off with DH and Layla's sibling Annie Laurie (14 in less than a month) for a wedding in Ohio -- our favorite Wounded Warrior is getting married and invited us AND the Shelties to the big event!!!

"getting married and invited us AND the Shelties to the big event"
It really warms my heart when I read this - wish you all a very good trip

Great NEWS!!!
I know everyone will enjoy seeing her again... even if it is in her "Chariot of Fur.!"

Good luck at rehab today!

Thanks for a great update. I'm glad Layla is improving.

How wonderful for you, DH, and the Shelties to be invited to the wedding. It hope you all have a fantastic time.

Phew, glad she's okay. It sounds like they have a great rehab program where you are, when mine had their joint surgeries I had to see the physio separately, we really didn't get any rehab from the Vet surgery. Shé's a lucky gal to have you doing all this for her, I know many people wouldn't put in the work.

That is so cool the dogs have been invited to the wedding. Is Ohio far to drive - not sure where places are in the US? I guess you'll be packing the chariot too so she can travel like a princess and have a rest when she needs.

Btw - still waiting for that photo in her stroller.

Findlay, Ohio, is just a bit over five hours away. But with DH's traumatic brain injury, we took two days so the trip wouldn't be as stressful. We also stopped for a couple of hours to visit with family today (speaking of stressful). Now we're chilling -- Layla just had her PT and Annie Laurie is sacked out. Wedding tomorrow!!

No Layla updates for a while? How is she going, back to doing therapy visits yet? She's obviously rockin' her stroller.

How do you find getting her in and out of the stroller? And can she stand up in it? I need to get another one for Mr D to keep around home (I have one in the car permanently) and was looking at one like you have, but I thought I'd have to lift him inside. The low to the ground ones cost heaps and I'd have to import (postage is as much as the stroller), so as you can imagine I'm hesitant. And Deska won't lay in the stroller, he always wants to stand.

Thanks for asking, Caro. Layla is doing very well. It's still quite early in the healing process (4 weeks), but she had her 4 week post-op check, and the doctor is very pleased. She did great at a wedding we went to in Ohio -- four days with traveling and hotels (with Annie Laurie, too). She now has the ok to begin short leash walks -- 5-10 minutes, building up. Oh, and she has to lose two pounds.

She adores her stroller -- she can stand up, turn around. Yes, I do have to lift her in.

Of course, the little idiot does keep sneaking down the stairs. And last night she jumped up on the sofa! Augh!! But it's good to see her old pizzazz returning.
