Less Interested in Eating

Yes he was intact, in fact he wasn't neutered until 2 at which point he was marking 4 times during our obedience class lol. I do recall my trainer at the time told me to correct him when he was sniffing...no telling him watch watch watch etc but just a leash pop and 'I said watch me'.
I did notice a BIG change in him once he was neutered behaviour wise as well, no more sniffing for the girls!

Glad to hear neutering helped with the sniffing!

What I’ve been doing with Kip forever, is using his food for training. I do so much training it’s the only way to keep him from getting fat. So at training/meal time, I measure out a third of his daily food, then we train for less than 10 minutes. I do the same thing at each meal.

Now sometimes, I start training, he spits out the treat and wanders off. Then I stop, and try again a little later. But maybe trying again is a mistake, and if he doesn’t eat in our normal training time, I should just put away the food and try again at the next set meal time. Maybe he would realize that it’s best to eat when food is offered?

I should add, that I have also tried just feeding him from a dish, and it’s still hit or miss if he feels like eating

Maybe he's gotten wise and doesn't care to work for the dog food? I totally understand not wanting him to gain weight and I know I went through treats like crazy when Piper was younger but they know when they're just getting dog food lol. That's why I started making my own treats so I could eliminate the carbs or fats so the treats would be healthier. You should try making the chicken liver treats I posted under recipes (the charley bear copycat)... if you don't have a pyramid pan it'd probably still work on a cookie sheet and just cut up small afterwards. Low carb and low fat and you can still figure out the calories so you know how much to cut back on Kip's dog food.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at your recipe!

I do give Kip special treats, especially when we are working on a new trick or training in a distracting environment. At agility class I only use his favorite treats, cheese, turkey, chicken, liver, but this week he wouldn’t even eat that!!

I feel for you. Liam would NEVER take a treat in his classes either. Makes training difficult when the won't focus with reward treats.
