Little Bear is going to break his neck one of these days

Awsome jumping LB !! Love the contortions...Claussen has a lot of competition with LB so it's nice you give him a shot at it alone sometimes. They are really cute together.

Thank you guys! Yes Toffees Mom I could tell LB was a little "different" than laid back Claussen. He belongs in agility..I really wish I had the time for it right now! Soon...

I love watching his body move and contort also-but he scares me sometimes because he looks like he's about to snap his spine!

I loved the video. I went through all that with Chelsea, except we used a Kong instead of a tennis ball. I'd throw it as hard as I could, she'd tear after it, jump, take it on a bounce, and I was amazed that she kept her teeth. If it stopped before she got to it though, it was out of play. Then dad had to go fetch.

Claussen is like April. She'll start to run for a ball if I only throw it about 20', and then decide it's just not worth the effort, and then maybe walk the rest of the way.

Cheers

Claussen actually REALLY loves it when I use the "chuck-it" but this particular day he was thirsty (they both were) and they'd already been playing for a hot minute. Someday I'll post some of Claussens fetches. He's clumsy as can be, but is so careful to drop the ball in my hand-even LB doesn't do that!

Haha...Air Bear! I love it!!! :biggrin2:

lol Like I said Claussen is just normal, his misfortune is only that he is brother to Air Bear! Good for him bringing it back to your hand! That comes in super handy for all obedience and agility work you going to be doing with BOTH of them :D

Little Bear is very, very cute.

I don't want to be a downer, but I'd be wary of doing a lot of reps like this. I'm guilty of making some bad throws (frisbee and balls), but I try not to force Lexi to jump all crazy-like (and she will!)

I've heard a lot of people say that their dogs were injured jumping and twisting in the air after a toy and now they are very careful about how toys are thrown.

Here's a good article from a famous agility blogger that touches on the subject: http://agilitynerd.com/blog/dog/training/FetchGames.html

Sorry again to be a downer. Now that my girl is hurt I'm a little sensitive to these sorts of things!

I am right there with you! Do you think its safer to catch discs by jumping instead? I think he really could injure something with his daredevil jumps-most likely his spine. (I'd hate to ruin his potential agility career due our playing ball this way!) So far the only thing that's happened to him is he landed on a bee a few weeks ago : ( Ouch!

I've always heard that low, straight throws are better. The dog is then leaping more forward than up. That allows the dog to catch up to it and run towards it rather than stopping, waiting and doing a lot of twisting. (Easier said than done!)
