Little Sheltie?

For non-sheltie people I think that they just don't realize how small shelties are. I post a lot of pictures of the puppies on Facebook and Instagram and every single time that someone meets them for the first time they always are like "oh my gosh they are so small!" They've seen the pictures but they still imagine that they are bigger than they are.

I get that a lot from people who first meet Envy. Always say, "She looks bigger in the pictures you post."

With her thin coat, Olive already faces up small despite being 14" but when people are used to the oversized pet quality and in general just bigger dogs, people think she is undersized. There was a pet-quality guy, probably 16" in our class the other week who had an impressive coat. They did their down stays next to each other and olive looked like she was half his size!

I've never heard that about any of mine- smaller than they look in the pic:winkgrin:

Ok the 2rd person tonight and the 3rd person this weekend has commented that Celtic is a cute little sheltie.

Since when has 15" become little. 2 of these comments have come from "dog" people who have been around shelties. I pointed out that he was 15" and the response was he doesn't look that big. He is moderate boned not a big tank of a dog. Does it make that much difference?
I could see the features being an issue. Spitfire gets accused of being a girl a LOT. But he is small and fine boned. Of course if the moose Sca is next to him

great things come in SMALL pkgs

Size matters on some things....but overall it isn't size that counts. Celtic is a great looking lad-doesn't appear small in the pictures, and if he is a good dog and performs well, don't heed the comments. Do you remember Seabiscuit-that horse was all heart and proved how much it counted.

My previous shelties were larger and solid looking. So when I look at and pick up Savannah who is petite and smaller boned I think wow, only her attitude is big, Everyone assumes she was the runt of her litter, which isn't SO. But for me at this stage, her size is good. I wanted smaller since my previous girl was big and heavy...towards the end of her life picking her up wasn't easy on me.

Savannah & Kaleigh play with Buddy & Joy (collies) and seeing them romp around. Shelties are superior imho, Buddy & Joy are great dogs, but my girls are faster and have that clever thing going. You can just see the "nanny nanny boo boo-we out-did you" in both Savannah & Kaleigh:pop

I do find people think Ally is very small - she is 14.5, smack in the middle of the standard. She has an enormous coat, the biggest of any dog I've had. At first I thought it was just cuz she was right next to 18 inch Asta, but now Brooke and Faith are 16 and just over 16, so who knows.

Whatever size he is, Celtic is obviously JUST RIGHT!!!

I have had the reverse happen. Addie is tiny! I think 11" or 12", and MAYBE 10lbs at 7 months? But she has such a big, happy personality that she is "bigger" to me. I am always so surprised when I see her next to another dog, like a Cocker or Chihuahua and really get a good visual of just how small she is. :o.

I think other people expect her to be bigger than she is, but I see her every day...I shouldn't be that surprised LOL.

Lil' Lady is 13" and has bigger bones then Lucky.

I don't get the little business. I got asked are they Collie pups?

I had to turn my head and laugh, oh my goodness.

All that I can say Shelties are not common around here
and they have no idea about a sheltie.

Spirit is just barely over 12", but also very petite and fine boned. She's very slender. One of my friends who also has a sheltie laughed the first time she picked Spirit up and said, "Oh my - she's WEIGHTLESS"! And her dog is not oversize - he's about 20 pounds!!!!!
