OK.. injured in the service of SheltieNation

I got a cut on my chin, from when Gavin sneezed when I was holding the phone with one hand.

Oh no! First your nose and now your chin lol!
Omg I just love those noises Gavin makes...sounds just like Chewbacca:ROFLMAO:!
What a cutie he is!

I forgot to mention that Riley left me a present (hmmmm, not the kind you want to get) upstairs in my bedroom. I came home from work and when I went upstairs I found quite a large amount of poop...no WAY this was from Piper..he's too small to have a poop this big!:ROFLMAO:

My mom told me Riley had been bugging her to go out:ROFLMAO: (later he was napping so clearly he was feeling better ;))..I told her after that next time he wants to go out, let him lol!

Clearly he's feeling good to come upstairs (14 steps to top) alone haha!

Poor Piper must've been disgusted by the mess...he stayed downstairs all evening :ROFLMAO:!

Sorry, you got injured! But, it was worth it to see the bliss on Gavin's face with his belly rubs!

Quick update...I've continued to reduce Riley's meds, he's now down to 1 gabapentin every other day (for 10 days) as well as the 1/2 dose of the Metacam and there has been no indication of pain or reducing mobility due to the decrease. He's actually more mobile, sneaking off to the second floor (my bedroom and where Piper and Finnie sleep) when we're out (looking for food I'd guess lol).
Big brat also doesn't want to come in the house, not that cold outside right now (although supposed to be -20 on Wednesday) so he's quite stubborn when it comes to getting him in the house!

Wonder if I should try Gabapentin for Tully. She spends all day just laying around not moving. When she had the ultrasound the specialist gave her bupenorphine and she was so energetic the next day, so I'm pretty sure it's pain and not grief. Deska was really dopey on the Gabapentin but now I wonder how much was due to the IBD and the stress of me being ill and then separated from me. Because Tully's got IBD too she can't have NSAIDs. I've got some Gabapentin left over.

Gavin is not dopey on gabapentin at all. For pain relief it generally has to be combined with something else.

The Gabapentin initially did nothing for Riley, it wasn't until the vet ok'd the Metacam that he began to improve. Personally I'm not sure if the Gabapentin really did anything for him but you could certainly try and see if it helps. Only thing with it is that they have to weaned off it...vet said its because it's normally prescribed for seizures and it may cause them in dogs with a history of seizures if stopped too suddenly.

Took Riley to the vet to get a repeat on his liver enzymes and got quite the shock. His enzymes were on the high end again! The vet wasn't sure what could be causing them and we've done all the testing we can do so she said just to monitor them.
This got me thinking about what I've been giving him. He does get an 8 kg dose of Metacam (he'd normally get 18 kg dose) so he's on the low end dose wise. Metacam can affect the liver so this is a possibility but he needs it for pain. I had stopped all pain meds but after 1 week with no pain meds he started to exhibit the same symptoms...difficulty doing steps, sitting more etc) so he's back on 1 Gabapentin/day and 8 kgs Metacam and he's doing great.
Then I wondered about the Green Lipped Mussel...he get 1/2 tsp every day (I don't really know if it helps or not). I googled it and turns out in some people with a previous history of liver problems Green Lipped Mussel CAN cause elevated enzymes!
I'm stopping giving it as of today and will see if this change gets his numbers going back in the right direction. The only other option is to see if he's ok on a 4 kg dose of Metacam, pain wise.
We'll retest in 4 weeks so fingers crossed that this is the problem. I left the vet a message regarding the Green Lipped Mussel in case she has anyone else interested in using it, even the vet was unaware of any potential problems as I'd cleared it with her before I started him on it.

Can you switch to a different NSAID? Deska was on Previcox and a half dose was all he needed, the ortho vet put him on it as it's meant to have less issues for long term use and it's was a dog specific COX2 inhibitor (meloxicam was created for humans first).

I've never heard of Green Lipped Mussels raising enzymes, that's interesting. Wonder if it's just the extract/powder or also the real mussels?
