Liver--high reward!

We use these at agility every once in awhile. The dogs go absolutely nuts for it. In fact, it's their favorite. I think our dogs would do ANYTHING for it.

Warning: It will make your house smell. Open your windows when making!

Buy 2 packages of beef or calves liver. Spray a pizza pan (or cookie sheet) well with pam. Then spread the liver over the pan and use a lot of garlic powder. Do not use garlic salt. Just cover it with the powder. Then put in a 400 degree oven and it will cook about 20 minutes. When it starts to look like it is drying out, turn the oven off. After about 5-10 minutes take it out of the oven to cool. Then use kitchen scissors to cut it up. After you cut it up, you can put it in a Ziploc and store it in the freezer. It will easily come apart so that you can just take what you need for training.
 
Actually, if you wrapped them in bacon, sprinkled a few capers on top, and served it on a bed of spinach...oh, are these for dogs? Never mind!

I have used beef heart same way, just put in oven... then to bait pouch, lol
SO MUCH cheaper than any of the stuff you can buy!!!!!
I am using more of those treats now cuz kibble as training treats is not working on getting his weight down a tad more....
Toffee still needs to loose a coupla pounds...

I will have to try this. Our trainer wants me to bring a "higher value" treat to agility class on Tuesday. All I had with us were mini zukes, and I guess they weren't enticing enough for silly Dandie.

The garlic just makes it stinkier. Tends to work really well for agility because the smell is overpowering to the dogs even from far away!

But, you can leave the garlic off. The one downside of the garlic is that it sticks to your fingers :)

We are trying to rent our house right now...so I guess I shouldn't cook liver before people come to see the house, eh? :lol:
 
I boil liver with garlic added. Have to try baking while it is still cold weather outside. Pups love liver but sometimes they have loose stools next day if they got too many.
Most often I use what hubby calls "puppy crack" which is ground meat mixed with ground quick oats, egg and garlic, rolled into rolls with wax paper to keep shape and microwaved for few minutes till cooked. It also smells but not as bad as liver.
