Losing the Daytime Caregiver

We leave all three girls by themselves when we're out. The doggy door is our magic solution. However, now we have Beckon, who will need constant attention -- so I'll be bringing him to work when his Daddy can't be with him. :rolleyes2:

You've received alot of great advice already, so I won't add alot to it. Just remember that these pups are very smart and very adaptable - especially as your baby already seems to well adjusted. Don't worry too much!

If you are able to do mid-day visits for the first week or so, that may help - if nothing else, it will help relieve YOUR anxiety! I know how you feel. My boys are both 16 months old and I hate to leave them home all day everyday. So I still go home at lunch.... :smile2:

Thanks for the many encouraging replies. We are going to do pretty much the whole "basket" of things. All except for the doggie door to the outside. That might work for some of the months but not the cold ones here in Nova Scotia! I am intrigued by the idea of playing hide and seek with the treats but am not sure about that since she is not the best at eating her dinner and I don't want to complicate that by turning food into too much like play. I do have a treat ball and can put food in it and so I might do that. She's a bit fussy with the food and we've given up getting her to just eat the dry kibble. She gets a special home made stew that goes on top and even at that she eats the kibble one at a time! It takes about 20 minutes to eat 1/3 cup of kibble and a tablespoon of stew.

We will do some Day Care days and will also share the 'home at lunch' days at least until we are sure that she is comfortable. We each have some ability to take her to work with us and we may do that on some days as well. We will also take more advantage of the flexibility that we each have to work at home. We're going to play it by ear on confining her area for now and narrow it as the situation dictates.
 
Update - and Brighid is getting a brother!

Just as suggested by most of you, Brighid has done fine with her new routine which includes 2 days a week of day-care and visits home mid-day on the other days. Her Gram has also visited during a couple of the days. She has had no 'accidents' in the house and has not engaged in any naughty behavior so she doesn't need to be confined. It's been a happy success.

Just as solutions were offered here on this board - seeds were planted! So we have decided to get a brother for Brighid. We will be travelling to pick him up on Saturday. He's only 2 more sleeps and a 4 hour drive away! He will be named Faegan.
 
Congratulations on your new furbaby boy. It's good to hear that Brighid is doing so well, and will have a new playmate. All the more fun for your family too. Hope we will see pictures when you get a chance.
 
How wonderful! Congratulations! I'm sure you will be thrilled with the addition to the family and I wish you many hours of puppy joy. So happy to hear that Brighid has made the transition well. I second the request for puppy pictures! :biggrin2:
