Lyme disease

Lisa, that's at least better than expected news. And you can do amazing things with diet...that could help enormously. I have a suggestion for you. When we couldn't get a handle on Flurry's allergy issues I called Natures' Farmacy where I get many of my supplements and happened to connect with one of their nutritionists. She asked me to describe what was going on with Flurry and gave me recommendations that fit her problem for a home cooked diet. She emailed me the recipes too, and has promptly answered every one of my emails and dumb questions incredibly promptly. I'd be happy to give you her name and email if you want to see if she can give you diet suggestions for Riley. She said it's what they do and they're happy to help people!

The best part of this story is that a few short weeks after starting this diet, ALL of Flurry's symptoms disappeared. After multiple tests, medications, and shots that didn't work, this did. I'm a believer!

I have used CBD oil. it definitely helped with Gavin's mood. He was pretty depressed with all the restrictions. I don't see a difference between it and gabapentin for Gavin, however.
And CBD oil definitely increased his drinking water, and need to pee.
I would tell you to be aware that CBD oil does affect drug metabolism and be careful when you give heartworm meds.

It's all very interesting Cindy, the use of CBD oil...I'm more interested to find out if it would act at all as an anti inflammatory (I have no idea how it works). I want something that'll relieve the inflammation in his knees and just make it easier for Riley to get around...the vet did mention Gabapentin but it's also not an anti inflammatory (the tramadol doesn't seem to do anything for him). I have used Green Lipped Mussels with Piper and noticed a big difference with it (he'd hurt his shoulder) but not sure how it would affect his liver. I left a message with the vet and expect a call back on Friday.

Gavin isn't in pain, so no direct comparison. He does have neuropathy that we know of. But I do know that route of administration affects thing greatly with CBD oil. Bio-availability is greatest sublingually (under the tongue). But I think most vets won't talk about it, something about them not being allowed to (just read this when I was on my own search) by licencing board? there really has not been vet research on it...

If you are able to give him the green lipped mussel I would definitely try it! Not only did it help Brooke's arthritic elbow, but it has done wonders for me - my knees were achy and painful all the time and I couldn't even kneel on them, and after a month on the GLM supplement the pain was GONE. I take one capsule every day and boy am I a believer!!

Hoping that a new diet can help - what about milk thistle? I think that's also for liver - haven't had this problem myself with my dogs but I remember reading about it - I think from Ann.

Sent you a PM with all the info, Lisa. And a big YES to the milk thistle suggestion if you aren't already giving it. It's a must for liver issues! My vet recommended Marin Plus because it's pure curcumin, the important ingredient in milk thistle. I get it from Chewy.com here.
