Lymphoma

Janet I am so sorry to hear about your Cody and lymphoma. My dear Katie had lymphoma and we lost her on April 15th after a 9 month battle but we had her longer than we ever thought we would. We started her on preds before Chemo and it made a big improvement. I also did a lot with her diet and herbs. If you would like to email me privately I would be happy to listen and tell what else we did for her. I can't tell you what to do but listen to your heart. I am still having a difficult time of it, I miss my girl so much.

My heart is with you as well, going through my own potential scare with this cancer.

Stay strong and hold your loved ones close!

Hi Janet,
We just began treatment for our second dog to be diagnosed with lymphoma. The treatmenet you described is exactly what we are doing. Our first dog was treated with L-Asparaginase and prednisone. We then used lomustine (CCNU or CEENU). He lived for 13 months post diagnosis. He was 6 at the time of his diagnosis. The lomustine drug affects the immune system and required blood tests every 10 days, and the lomustine was administered every 21 days. After this experience, we decided that if we had to do it again, we would just do the L-Aspiraginase and prednisone. Our second dog is almost 12. L-Aspiraginase can be administered multiple times, but it has side effects that can cause an anaphylactic reaction. It also becomes less effective over time. As difficult as it is to know your dog has lymphoma, I believe your treatment decision is probably the best choice.

Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone could give me any info concerning lymphoma. Vet is talking about doing one injection of L-Asparaginase followed by prednisone or just doing the pred. alone. My heart is breaking. Cody is my rescue, my little shadow, the joke around here is he sleeps with one eye open so he knows when I move to follow me. Vet did a needle aspiration the other day on lymph nodes that are slightly swollen and results came back highly suspicious and probable for lymphoma. Cody is between 13 to 15 and vet claims the next thing to be 100 percent sure would be to biopsy, which is not a good thing with Cody's age. He feels we should start treatment as soon as possible. We can't see putting him thru full storm chemo at this age for a few more months. I'm so torn on which way to go. Vet says the injection risks are very, very small, but pretty severe if it happens. Any and all help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Janet
