Marcus - Urgent

Marcus

All I can say is OMG! This poor little Sheltie. This is so awful, I just can't believe it. I have never seen anything like this in my life on a dog, and I have seen a lot of awful things. Thank God, we have Danny's mommy looking out for these poor helpless babies on the internet. I am so glad to hear that Marcus is going to be rescued. I am afraid this picture is going to haunt me for a very long time. He is in my prayers.

I must say I didn't do anything to get this poor dog into rescue. When I saw it on petfinder other groups in rescue were already getting it rescued. The dog was posted on the national sheltie rescue list and numerous groups sprung into action. I didn't know all of this was going on until after I posted it. I will be haunted by the photos of this poor dog too. I have seen before and after pictures of a dog that looked like this one and it looked normal after treatment. What disturbs me most is people who let it get like this.

Marcus

Danny's Mommy, thank you again for all you do for these babies. I was glad you posted the last note, letting me know that after treatment Marcus should be okay again. And of course, the awful part is the person(s) responsible for allowing this to get so terrible. I wonder if he was just dumped somewhere. I am just glad he is being helped now, bless his heart.:hugs

Oh man, the pictures brought tears to my eyes. So glad to hear he's going to a rescue. Hope they post pictures of him as he recovers! Poor baby!

I gotta say, I've seen a couple of bad cases of scarcoptic mange before, wouldn't think it was demodex, but never seen the likes of that. It looks like the ear leathers are really infected to go with it. Poor little guy must be feeling so miserable. Hopefully with treatment and good food he will start healing quickly.

Looks like sarcoptic mange to me too. Poor guy- I have seen some bad cases but his is the worse.

I once got called over to a coworker of my husband's on a Friday night. They had picked up a Border Collie puppy the night before and it was itching like crazy. She had stopped in at a vet's to make an appointment and to get the pup on record, mentioned his scratching and was given some Oatmeal shampoo. The person she spoke to at the vet thought it was just because of the pup being in a barn - the breeder had had a house fire and had to move the 2 litters to an unused barn - and maybe the hay or something was bothering it. I got over there and it was immediately apparent that the pup was bothered by sarcoptic mange. There were raccoons in that barn it turns out. The breeder had treated the pups with Advantage a couple of days before Lauri picked her pup up and the pup was suffering the sever itch effect as the mites died. Luckily, I called my vet and she suggested Benedryl or pred, if I had some, and had Lauri bring the pup in at 8 the next morning. Lucky for that little guy I had one dose of pred leftover from another small dog that I had babysat and was able to split it to give him some relief. Seeing this dog and how bad he is makes me wonder how he is able to not chew himself raw.

I am really sick seeing this. Marcus, it's going to be better from now on -- we promise.

Has anyone heard any more about little Marcus and how he is doing? It would be nice to hear an update and maybe a picture showing him doing better. I keep him in my prayers every day.:hugs
