Mine has three larger links. Two that attach to the collar itself, and the larger one in the middle that you attach the leash to. You could attach the tag to any one of the larger links without impacting the margingales performance, I think.

Also, somewhere on the forum, is a thread about some kind of tag covers that won't grab fur.

I attach Sadie's tags to her martingale as well. I've never had a problem with performance.

I also think its important getting one that adjusts. As Caro said, there can be a significant difference in the amount of fur around the neck in the summer and winter so I need to be able to adjust the size when necessary.

This is the collar that Sadie has and Ginny will get, when she's bigger. For some reason, Petsmart calls it a choke chain trainingno collar, but its a martingale. I keep Sadie's adjusted so that it does not choke her, just tightens enough so that her head can't slip out. It was very inexpensive

I would like to know what you think of this collar and if any of you use this, I am thinking of buying one, not sure of the right size. Sandstorm is 30 lbs and wears a buckle collar - I think it is the 20 inch one. Thanks,

Bailey has that collar. She only 15 pounds. I'm not sure what size she has, but they are adjustable. Bring Sandstorm with you to the store, so you can try it on him.

I like that collar a lot. It doesn't slip off her neck when she backs up and it's very easy to take on and off.

I am hoping to measure what size I need by comparing it to Sandstorms buckle collar, since I have not seen the martingale at any stores around me (I live on Cape Cod, MA, not much here!!). Since the martingale is also adjustable, I think measuring his buckle collar for a fit should work. Also, we like to go to the local pond where I let Sandstorm drag his 15 ft lead, would the collar loosen and come off in this situation? Thanks for any replies,

No it shouldn't. If adjusted correctly, the martingale is supposed to hang loose when they are casually walking, but tighten up around their neck when they pull or try to back out.

I measured Sandstorms neck and collar he has now, his neck is 15 inches. The martingale collars I found on Pawmark website (the chain ones, exactly like the petsmart but cheaper and more size selections) are sized from 10" to 24", like this: 10,12,14,16,18 etc.
Does this mean I should get the 14" or the 16" ?

I'm thinking the sizing for a martingale would be to take the coller that is being worn now,and buckle it.
Take the inside measurement,and that is the size that you should try to shoot for in a martingale.

The martingale should be able to be slid over the head easy,not tight,but just so it slides over the head.Taking a measurement of the dog at under the jaw line,and around the top of the skull can also give you a fairly close estimate of the size.

Thankyou, that is helpful info. The website says it is unpublished so I could not get sizing info there, but I will measure the collar like you said,

Well gee..
I knew she was not taking orders until further notice,but did not realize it was'nt published.As the sizing info sure is helpful she has there.

not really sure what may be going on in her private life,but I do know many here have ordered some very nice quality leads& collars from her.Sure hope she gets back into the swing of things,as I planned to hopefully order Trapp one for his birthday in July~
