Massive bruise (formerly ? infection) on Gavin's chest

Chlorhexidine seems to be the go to for staph. walgreens has it. Finding a place to wash Gavin is a bit more challenging. I know 2x a week seems to be the norm for staph infections, but if more often is better I'll do that. I'd like it to be improved when I leave in 9/10 days

NOT a staph infection. had the vet shave his tummy. It's a gigantic bruise. bloodwork is normal, so probably no internal bleeding. vet was worried about that.
I'm guessing he fell in the kitchen on one of the table legs (Grandma leaves the chairs pulled out even though I've told her a dozen times not to).
It would explain his not eating/drinking since those bowls are in the kitchen. he only goes in there when I carry him in there the past few days. So I will move them
No real treatment. just watching. outlined bruising in sharpie to make it easier.

That is good news, Cindy, although wow what a bruise. Thank goodness it's nothing more serious, and it does explain a lot for you about his behavior the past few days. Of course we can't watch them every second, no matter how diligent we are, and stuff happens. At least you know it will improve each day. Did they give you anything for him, like Gabapentin, for pain? Pats to precious Gavin and I hope you can relax a bit!

he's already on gaba, and I asked for some carprofen. Mostly he seems to have difficulties getting up from laying on one side; I'm guessing those ab muscles he uses to haul himself over are pretty sore.
That bruise is literally almost the entire length of his body! It seems darker on his chest and lighter further down his body.
But yes, I'd figure something happened Thursday since he wouldn't settle that evening (pain) and then Friday he was so lethargic (soreness sets in)

I am happy to hear he has nothing more serious than a bruise (a big one) but it could have been a lot more than that.
You do really well on keeping up with Gavin and am still surprised you saw his injury for all the hair that Shelties have. Your a great Mom for a Sheltie!
My 1 thought is maybe for right now a shirt or some sort of clothing might help protect his bruised area while you are at your Mom's house. I am not a huge fan of dress up but in this case it might help protect the area in case he falls again. Just a thought.. I hope he heals quickly and give him a hug for us. :)

Oh good Lord, that is a huge bruise. Poor guy, no wonder he has been off. Wonderful news that bloodwork is normal. It's a head scratcher how he could have landed hard enough to earn that! You take wonderful, consistent care of Gavin so don't feel bad, as Ann said, stuff happens. Glad he's going to be OK. Phew.

After we got back from vet, Gavin chilled in the backyard for a few hours. then he napped with me (I needed the sleep badly, I've been up every 2 hours with him every night since last thursday). He ate tonite, following me to the doorway to the kitchen when I went in there. I moved his bowls into a slightly separate but adjacent area and he went in and ate there, so that is good. he has been able to get up on his own from laying down a bit better than the past few days so its a good sign. Best I can tell, it'll take 1-2 weeks for the bruise to heal up. maybe 5 days to green/yellow and 10 days to brown.
