Max Is Being Stubborn Today

This may sound nuts, but I often thank my Shelties when they do somethig I approve of. For example, if the doorbell rings and they all run madly barking to the door, " say, "Thank you, good watchdogs. That's enough now. Thank you." they quiet right down. Also when Layla has been especially good with a patient at Walter Reed, I thank her. Shelties appreciate courteous manners from us, too.

Saying Thanks!

LOL, Chris! I do the same every time they "warn" us of the mailman, UPS, etc. I've always said that Shelties are great at warning us, and if that didn't ward off the bad guys, the Rotties take over tearing them to shreds, LOL!

Oh, and on the brighter side, I think I mentioned that Max isn't socialized with strangers yet, strangers being our friends who visit. Well yesterday evening a girlfriend of mine,Trudy, came over and I put Max on his leash and handed it over to her along with a treat. Trudy is another lover of dogs and she took her time to talk to Max and pretty soon Max realized she wasn't a threat and came to her and gently took the treat. After that, Trudy removed his leash and Max didn't try to bite or jump on her. Yippee!

Socializing Max

As I've mentioned before, we're trying to socialize Max with strangers.

Our friend, Trudy, stopped by last night and we put Max on leash and handed him over to her. The barking stopped and soon she released him to run free. Max was still a bit wary of her, but after seeing that Disco and Sparky were getting all of her attention (jealous boy!), he came over to Trudy and allowed her to pet him. I think it was a good sign when Max began to lick her hand.:biggrin2:

This is the second time Max has come into contact with Trudy, so hopefully the third time, he will remember her and not consider her a threat.
