Maybe Getting New Puppy Soon

Congratulations, I hope you find what you are hoping to find.

As far as getting Roxy ready, Maybe Friday or Saturday before you get ready to go you could give Roxy that extra special treat that she doesn't get that often or Friday play her favorite game and then take everyone on a car ride just because. Then Saturday Roxy may enjoy the car part just a little bit more.
I am sure you will find something to make Roxy feel extra special.

Yay!! You've got us all along for the ride now, Darci, we'll be excited to hear how it goes. Best advice (about saying yes to Faith so quickly after our Asta passed) I ever got was to make the decision out of love, not fear, if that makes sense. It seems when there's a choice one usually speaks to you more. Good luck, and maybe Roxy will surprise you!

She does not like the car. We’ll skip the extra trip.

Just a thought…
I know many breeders accept puppies back if for some reason it does not work out as most contracts you sign state it.
When I got Liam I did not bring any of my boys to meet him. If Ricky is more stressed by a long car ride maybe leave her home?
You heart will lead you in the right direction and Roxy, I am sure, will follow your lead. Good luck. As Sharon says, we are along for the ride with you!❤️

Yes. This breeder accepts them back at any time and it’s part of their contract that that happens.

I had thought about not taking her. She is used to the car and goes on long rides but she does not enjoy them. Part of my thought process too had been on the ride home she could start getting used to her smell.

She will know something is up when you get home even if you do not bring her. She will def smell the pups on you. if you don't bring her along, bring 2 - 3 things including one of her toys. Get puppies scent on all things, seal up in ziploc. Some time after, bring out one item. 'Hey, there's that same scent I smelled before!'. and then do that in days right before pup comes home. I bought the puppy kit below for Deacon. When we picked him up, I brought the blankie and the doggy and the breeder rubbed them on mommy for her scent. Deacon LOVED his doggy with the heartbeat. He never showed any stress from the transition. We did luck out with both Brodie and Deacon - no crying and slept through the night every night except the first one (I woke each pup up to take out). I do feel Deacon was more 'chill' but also feel the heat and heartbeat from the doggyy helped. He loves his doggy and still uses it as a pillow in his kennel - no more heat and heartbeat though.

I like that idea. Pups are 12 weeks, and ready to go now. We weren’t really expecting to start thinking about another for another 2-3 years or so.

I can’t remember how Roxy was when she first came home as far as sleeping through the night. She was right about the same age.

I emailed the breeders to get their opinion since they have been at it a long time and have placed their share of puppies. Plus, they have been living with these two for the last three months and they know them far better than I could hope to in a short visit.

I misread some of that. I like the idea of having puppy toys and blankets with their mother and littermates smell on them.

When we got Watson, they sent him home with this purple stuffed teddy bear. It was the only toy he ever liked until he had Roxy to play with. I tucked it in between his front paws and had it cremated with him… I was so thankful that I could be with him when he went in.

With Roxy, I had all new toys for her, her leash, a collar, a harness, and her name tag. This time is different. I don’t want to prep too much and then have neither pup be a good fit. But I could probably pick up a couple and take along that I think Roxy would also like and if she doesn’t come with us, I can take one of her gnarly ones she like to chew and carry around all the time and let puppy sniff at that and get used to the new smell. One of the mew toys could be for puppy. And one could be rubbed all over puppy, for Roxy to have and play with.
