Maybe Getting New Puppy Soon

weeellll…. The puppies are both described as friendly and outgoing and neither one shy. This is how I describe Roxy when I want to blunt the truth a little. Otherwise she’s “bats@&$ crazy and overbearingly friendly.”
Sca was 'dignified' but a bit to friendly. As I have posted before there was a large German Shepherd at flyball that really thought he should eat Sca(Kyzer was very behaved in the ring so I never worried) and of course Sca wanted to visit as maybe this time he cold be friends. Though he could do crazy also, I think all Shelties can.

In my secret heart of hearts in our next Sheltie I'd love one that played ball and with toys again. Katy stopped playing after Bailey died and she like Annie thinks toys are for pillows. Annie has always been terrified of things being thrown. She cannot fathom why one would throw a ball or expect that she would enjoy having it tossed to her. I love her just the way she is but man I miss playing ball with Bailey and Katy.

Roxy has this rubbery two ring treat dispensing thing. We don’t put treats in it anymore. But she will chase and fetch that thing time after time. She likes it best if I kick it instead of through it because she tries to stop it short if I don’t get it too far off the ground. “Get your toy” is literally the one set of instructions she listens to.Watson never played with that I don’t think. He would play tug with a ratty old weasel toy but beyond that they loved to hang their teeth out and shake their heads making walruses noises at each other. So strange.

I misread some of that. I like the idea of having puppy toys and blankets with their mother and littermates smell on them.

When we got Watson, they sent him home with this purple stuffed teddy bear. It was the only toy he ever liked until he had Roxy to play with. I tucked it in between his front paws and had it cremated with him… I was so thankful that I could be with him when he went in.

With Roxy, I had all new toys for her, her leash, a collar, a harness, and her name tag. This time is different. I don’t want to prep too much and then have neither pup be a good fit. But I could probably pick up a couple and take along that I think Roxy would also like and if she doesn’t come with us, I can take one of her gnarly ones she like to chew and carry around all the time and let puppy sniff at that and get used to the new smell. One of the mew toys could be for puppy. And one could be rubbed all over puppy, for Roxy to have and play with.
I took a small inexpensive fleece blanket (think child size) and the breeder rubbed it on the other pups and the dam. I must say all my pups have slept through the night from day one and on. Never had a problem using this method.

To be fair they will play Sheltie soccer with our various collection of treat balls and will bat them around from time to time long after the treats are gone. It is the one toy they both will play with and we will sometimes bring them all together and have a treat ball party as they do have a large collection.

I found the first maze ball on our first dog vacation we took with Katy right before we got Annie and it was the first toy she actually was willing to play with after he passed.

When Bailey was alive he loved all kinds of toys and he loved playing fetch and Katy would run and compete for the ball with him. I've never understood why but even with Annie there always seems to be one toy everyone wants whether it be treat ball or fetch.

so Destin likes to play and will bring me a toy to throw- everyone else could have been napping but they all chase the toy even though no one else wanted to play enough to bring the toy over. Destin and Cran always bring the toy back so we can keep playing. Jo gets the toy and tries to get them to play with him and the toy. if Dixie gets the toy- game over. she'll take it somewhere to chew on it......
I can get a different toy to throw for Cran but whatever toy that Destin brought is the one that is the toy at that time...............

I can see this. And I kind of love it and kind of feel bad for poor Destin.
